It had been weeks since the young wolf had seen anybody outside of going to work in town and returning to his own seclusion. This sort of thing wasn't really in Daniels nature, to isolate himself so, but no one had given him any notice of a planned move. More than likely that was because he hadn't really forged a relationship with anyone in the pack as of yet, but that didn't mean that he didn't genuinely like some of them, at least the parts of them that he had seen. It actually filled him with a bit of sadness to return back to an empty house almost every night, the scents of those who used to come and go lingering about, and anyone who still came and went seemed to evade him like the plague, if anyone even frequented the old pack house anymore. Tonight was just like most nights, Daniel came home from work and changed in to some more comfortable clothes, tonight being a plain white T and a pair of shorts kind of night, even though it was sixty seven degrees outside. Daniel moved himself out to the front porch and unrolled his mat, then lowered himself in to a sitting position on top of it. He sat his phone on the ground in front of him, on loud in case the rare occasion occurrd that anyone would want to text him or give him a call. Daniel then placed both bare feet together, bottoms against each other and his knees were held down against the ground. One hand was placed on each knee and he leaned his head back, inhaling deeply and then exhaling as he shut his eyes and moved his head back in to the natural position. He tried to focus on the energies that flowed inside himself, and to help with that he let it broadcast out from him like a beacon, rolling like the waves of the ocean. "I recognize I have neglected you." He whispered to himself, speaking to the animal inside him. His metaphysical beast sat, head held high, proud and stubborn. It was his in his nature. "We will attain that perfection again." He swore, and inhaled again, head rolling back then forward slowly. He missed the sort of control he used to have, and the harmony he used to enjoy with himself. This place would help him get himself back. Then, maybe, he could earn some respect again.
No one was perfect. That was a lesson that seemed fairly simple, but one that he seemed never quite to accept. Ash was very good at a lot of things, but the things that he failed at were always what he internalized the most for later self conflagration. At the moment as he walked into the pack house he felt that old guilt settle deep into the pit of his stomach. It had been awhile this time, quite awhile since he'd last entered the pack house. Once again the neverending struggle between his work life and his home life seemed to be an insurmountable divide.
Moving towards the kitchen he saw on the counter the paperwork that Silent had said she would leave for him. They were deeds and trusts in both their names for the property they had left behind years ago in Salem. Actually the date almost surprised him when he opened the folder and glanced down at the paperwork. Had it really been over six years since they had left that place? Sometimes it seemed like only yesterday, then again at other times it was a million years away.
The feel of another wolf close by brought him out of his reverie and he tucked the folder beneath his arm and headed in the direction of the front porch. Since Ash had parked in the back he hadn't seen Daniel on his mat. In fact, due to the rather insane nature of the pack he had not directly met Daniel yet, only seen him from a distance among the crowd at the full moon. Stepping into the doorway Ash leaned against the door frame like a silent shadow observing the young mans meditations.
"You know, there's a reason our beasts are called pack creatures. It's because they typically thrive when they're around their own kind. Not that a little meditation isn't good for the soul, but have you thought about asking some of the others to join you?"
It wasn't said in a condemning tone, merely observing the lonely feel of the young mans beast. The spirit of his own black timberwolf was kept in check behind the sanctity of silver lined shields but Ash let his power thrum in a soft primitive tone just at the periphery of their senses. Telling someone else not to be alone was like the pot calling the kettle black, but just because he didn't always follow his own advice didn't make it bad advice. Right?
"I don't think we've been formally introduced. I'm Ash Redfern. Your friendly neighborhood Ulfric."
As he stepped forward to offer one pale tattooed hand down towards Daniel he looked anything but friendly. Really he couldn't help it. The pale skin, tattoos, scars, and the generally stoic expression made it almost impossible for Ash to look approachable, but he was trying. No matter what his great and glaring faults might be there was one thing about Ash you could set your watch by. No matter how many times he was down for the count, no matter how often he made the wrong choice, there was never a chance he would give up or leave you or refuse to try again.
Lou had been doing her thing... which was basically running her custom motorcycle shop. Days spent in working on and building bikes, working herself to exhaustion before sleeping restlessly. Nothing new.
OK, some things were new, she had been trying to get to know the other wolves in the city but everyone seemed to have other places to be. Visits to the pack house were brief, usually just poking her nose in to see that no one was home. Visits to Geller's were about the same. Even trying to find the young wolf that she was supposed to be helping hadn't quite come together, each attempt at the house finding that the girl was out.
Benny had drifted out of town, nothing surprising there. He'd always moved in and out of the area without warning.
It was a quiet night, a restless night, a night that work wouldn't be soothing and solitude would be torture. She left the shop, heading off to Kodi's, hoping that a visit with Papa Bear would ease the restless anxiety that was plaguing her.
The shadows around the pawn shop should have warned her that something was wrong, but it wasn't until she pulled her bike to the curb that she realized all the things that had changed. The shop was closed, her heart pounding with sudden fear as she slipped from the bike to peer inside and see.... nothing... Bare shelved and dust littered the empty store. Panic flared as she moved around the buidling, searching for some sign, some reason for what had happened. She frantically tugged her cellphone from her pocket, fumbling over the buttons as she checked and doublechecked for messages, finally trying the number she had for the bear herself... only to receive one of those 'the number you have dialed is not in service' message.
She turned from the building, unaware of the sting of tears as mounted her bike, twisting the throttle to race away. The ride to the packhouse was a blur, guiding the bike more by instinct then design, barely aware of where she was going until she'd arrived. She was trembling as she looked up at the house, slowly easing from the back of the black Triumph.
She looked lost; her features pale beneath wind-tangled red curls, arms curling tightly around herself as she made her way up the path and onto the porch. Her head lowered, she was moving on instinct, seeking out the comfort of the pack.
Ash's scent, the throb of his power drew her to him, easing close to him. "Kodi's gone," words a tremulous whisper. Kodi had been an old friend, the bear a substitute for the pack before Ash and the others had returned to New Orleans. With so many of the pack being out of town or out of contact for so long, the loss of the bear was the final straw, sending the red wolf into a panic.
She tipped her head just slightly, enough to peer over at Daniel warily before peeking quickly up at Ash.
"Is it OK for me to stay here... for tonight?" She hadn't wanted to leave her home, to leave the shop but right now the thought of being alone was just too frightening.
Things had been steadily getting worse in Alex's little world. Or at least the world that seemed to exist within her head. The one that kept her trapped with the psychotic brother that seemed to want nothing more than to drag her down into death with him. Malicious spirit. Munin. Stubborn ass bastard that can't give up. Who knew what Xavier was exactly at this point. But over the last few weeks, Alex had been pretty much fighting what was starting to look like a losing battle. There had been a time, when he'd been quiet. When he hadn't bothered her, and she'd been able to breath. To try and live normally. And then. Then he'd try it again. Slamming against her from the inside as it were, and slowly killing her from the inside out.
That night, she was in the basement of the house. His place. His sanctuary it had been. His workshop and playroom. And there was alot of memories stored in the place. And Xavier made sure that Alex saw each and every one of them. Knowing that it would weaken her control. Weaken her resolve to NOT be what he'd made her. She tried to continue working on the project she'd started. setting up the area to be used for training for those that lived in the house. Herself. Ash. Laney. Whoever else ende dup wanting to stay. the razor blade in it's holder she'd been using to cut the linolium tiles with was held tightly in her hand, as a particularly bloody immage flashed into her mind, complete with sensory memories as well.
The cutter was slipped away into her back pocket without thinking as she rose to her feet, growling in the back of her throat. She couldn't keep this up. She needed help. She needed...fuck who did she need? Shaking her head, she stumbled towards the stairs, and up, trying to think. Geller...Silent!! Through the kitchen, out the front and into her truck, she continued to fight to keep her cool. To hold onto that control, and not give over to him and do what it was he was wanting. The utter chaos, and blood letting he was craving. That he wanted her to indulge in. And before she knew it, she was pulling up infront of the pack house. Body trembling, face pale, and hair tumbling around her face wildly.
Silent...she needed Silent. Silent would make it better...Silent would help her win this battle just like she had before. Only...Silent wasn't there. Silent was in Salem, and Alex had no fucking clue. Stumbling from the truck, she cursed silently at the voice taunting her in her head. she could FEEL him in there. like some poisonus parasite that was sucking the life from her, and trying to break her will. The familar scent of pack had her hesitating, him hesitating. It was enough that alex managed to get herself up the steps, and her control started to snap, making her stumble, and reach out, grasping Ash's Arm as she started to sink to her knees, looking up at him with wide, wild, terrified blue eyes. "Help...please..."
Alex let out a whimper, her already frail and tiny body putting barely any weight on his arm. And just the sight of Ash, while normally would have strengthened her control, suddenly seemed to give Xavier what he needed and it was like watching a clean glass filling up with dirty disgusting water. Her expression changed, her voice became more gutteral, and that texas twang became thick enough to walk on. Eye's shifted, looking first to Lou, and a cruel smirk curled her lips, the fear that rolled off of the little red wolf was enough to make Xavier shudder in almost orgasmic levels. Yeah...but now wasn't the time for her....fun as she'd be to torment, torture, and break...even more fun doing it by using this body that lou knew and trusted...
Attention moved to the pup then, and that smirk turned into a sneering grin. Yeah, he knew this one too. Hell he'd had a hand in his creation!! Not that he'd ment for that to happen...If he'd had his way, the boy woulda died where he left him...but this was better...fuck with another life this way!
Then attention went back to Ash, and that grin got even wider. "Well aint this just some shit? What you gonna do this time, ya god damn british fairy fuck?? Can't fuck me up this time, not without doin serious damage to your precious little whore." Xavier's warped cackle came out of Alex's lips, as she sat there on her knees, and slowly go to her feet again, head still tipped up to look Ash in the eyes and his voice lowered to a hiss.
"The little whore is MINE you fucker...I told you that before...She was always mine....and she always WILL BE!!" The grin was back now, sadistic and twisted as it was. "If you try and take me out of her, I'll fucking end her in the worst way possible. I'll string her guts up for all of you to see. And I won't kill her slowly, neither....Oh no sir..."
Alex's form started to step backwards, tripping down the steps, eye's still on Ash, and the razorblade she'd been using on the linolium was pulled from her pocket, and flicked open, lifting it to her cheek as the next words were screamed out "I'LL MAKE HER FUCKING SCREAM!!!!!" and the blade came down, slicing into her cheek deeply, and again along the other side, cutting into any available peice of flesh with quick, vicious little stabs and slices. deep as you could get with a razorblade.
And the sounds of Alex's screams filled the air around them, echoing out into the swamp.
Before Daniel could really speak they were joined by others, the scent of the wolves growing stronger as they were joined on the front porch by Lou. The small red headed she wolf sidled up beside him but Ash noticed the almost instinctive distance that she left between them. She seemed as reluctant to be touched as Ash had been when he’d first moved to Salem years ago. Seeing that bit of himself in her he pushed away from the door frame in a smooth movement and curled a pale arm around her slumped shoulders to draw her into his side.
“It’s alright for you to stay here as long as you’d like Louise. This is your home now too.”
Not letting his eyes really leave Daniel he canted his head a bit to the side so that he could brush his cheek against the top of Lou’s head. The scent of the Highlands swept across her marking her as his. Headlights cut a path across the driveway and Ash’s lightning kissed gaze finally left Daniel and moved to look at Alex’s truck as it lurched haphazardly up the driveway. The erratic driving had his black brows rising in a high arches. One hand gave a soft squeeze to Lou’s shoulder before his arm slipped away from her so that he could move closer to the edge of the porch.
All around them the evening was hushed, as though the darkness held its breath. Only that cut of golden light from the headlights bathed the scene as Alex practically fell out of the cabin of the truck like her legs refused to work. Ash had made it down the first step when Alex grabbed at his arm and cried for help. Her hand on his arm tightened and then released against the cool paleness of his flesh, and then he saw that change come over her expression. Suddenly he knew why Alex needed help.
As Xavier examined the scene from Alex’s eyes Ash was making a quick assessment of the situation himself. He was not foolish enough to try to control the munin on his own, for that was not a gift that had been given to him, but he was smart enough to know that sometimes the best you could do was know when to call on someone else for help. Without turning his attention away from Alex he spoke calmly to Lou in a low voice that rang with authority.
“Lou, go inside and call Geller. I want him here five minutes ago.”
There might not be much that he could do with the munin itself, but he could keep Alex safe until Geller got there. For the most part Ash chose to ignore the words Xavier was saying. Nothing the man had said when he was alive had any real value so he hardly felt that what the man might choose to say now would be of value to anyone. As Xavier moved the knife up to cut at Alex’s face Ash was just suddenly not standing on the porch anymore. He moved with lightning fast speed that was a mix of his own lycan speed and the extra boost he had inherited through the marks he bore. It made him a match for many Master Vampires, and one lazy wolf trapped in the body of a young girl was hardly a match for it.
His arm swept out into the crook of Alex’s arm and slammed his forearm down against the crook of her elbow forcing the hand holding the knife to sweep downwards. As Xavier moved to try to sweep the knife towards him Ash turned into Alex’s body and gripped her wrist hard with his hand. A blast of power coiled down his arm and hit her wrist like a wave of heat that made the knife fall from her fingers and into the dirt at their feet. Stepping outwards again he kicked the knife towards the porch and away from Xavier.
“Bad puppy Xavier. Now I want you to….” And here his lilted British voice actually sounded amused before he said the next word. “…sit.”
That one word was laced with power as he dropped his shields and let the weighted heat of his power slam into Alex. It wouldn’t hurt her, but it made the compulsion to drop to her ass unavoidable. Xavier should find it familiar as he had been on the receiving end of it before. That power seemed to curl around Alex, to separate her beast from the part of her that was somehow ‘other’ and his great black timber wolf stood with hackles raised to hold off the energy of this intruding force. Even the growl of his wolf on that metaphysical plane seemed like a cruel laugh, and when Ash spoke next his voice had that same edge of cruelty in it.
“Ahhh Xavier. I wish you were still alive mate.” Crouching down in front of Alex he looked the girl in the eyes and saw Alex in control there, but his beast could still feel the other inside of her. “So that I could kill you myself.”
Cocking his head to one side he reached out to touch the side of Alex’s face with his hand. Softly he stroked her cheek and stared into her eyes with his own electric blues. Smooth rounded lips mouthed the words ‘trust me’ to her and then he let his fingers brush back through the strands of her blonde hair. Moving her hair out of her face he let his power race between them as that intimate touch connected them. Then he said just one word to the dual natured creature in front of him.
“Sleep.”
His power rolled over her in a new way as he connected to the marks deep inside him and Alex would be swept away on a warm benevolent wave of pure blissful love that cosseted her in its embrace. It was so foreign from the bounty of the beast that he felt Xavier shrink from it. As her eyes dipped closed he reached out to let her body slump forward into his arms so that she wouldn’t fall. With her head cradled in against his shoulder he hefted her weight into his arms and lifted her off the ground, carrying her like a bride (albeit a passed out bride).
“Daniel. I need you to go to Silents room. Look under the bed for a black leather bag. There should be silver restraints inside. Bring them into the living room please.”
Expecting his requests to be obeyed without question he followed Daniel inside and headed straight for the living room. With care he laid Alex out on the couch and tucked a pillow beneath her head gently. Brushing her hair back from her face again he turned to move the coffee table and any other items away from the couch so that there was room near her for whatever might happen once she woke up. He moved quickly, careful to get anything that could be used as a weapon out of the way. Then dexterous hands checked her body for other weapons, patting down the front and back of her carefully as he turned her pockets inside out and made sure he had searched every inch.
“Lou, find the first aid kit please. Let’s get some of these wounds treated while she’s still out.”
Lou could tell him what anything she heard from Geller while she worked on Alex. Ash could heal her wounds himself with power, but he thought it more appropriate to hold off on that until this Xavier matter had been handled. One disaster at a time. The first aid kit would do for now. When Daniel returned to the room with the restraints he took the wrist cuffs from him and moved towards Alex again.
“Use the ankle restraints and fasten them tightly. When she wakes up some minor silver wounds could be the least of her worries. Just make the bonds secure.”
Following his own advice he rolled Alex’s body carefully onto it’s side and twisted her arms back behind her so that he could fasten the silver cuffs onto her wrists tightly. He could feel the burn of the silver against his own hands but he ignored it. A lifetime of working with silver had made him, not immune, but more capable of ignoring the pain that such things caused. Once Daniel had her ankles restrained he rolled Alex back onto her back. Glancing over at Daniel and Lou he shrugged.
“Hope you two didn’t have plans for the evening. It looks like this might be a long night.”
Daniel didn't have time to speak a word before the action started. Lou showed up then Alex, then Xavier reared his ugly head. For a split second when Xavier was speaking, the rolling waves that were the ocean of Daniels exposed power threashed like in the midst of a hurricane as great rage apparently filled the boys mind, then another moment later that were calm and still as the steel guard that was Daniels mental control flew up. Perhaps a trait that pissed people off about him, it was the reason he didn't show much anger nor fear, the chains that really bound his beast inside. Daniel was silent, following Ashes orders to retrieve the restraints, and applied the leggings as ordered as well. Ash would get to hear the boy speak for the first time after his comment, when a slight smile hit his lips. "I am...free, and at your bidding. I owe her a debt. If what I think is going on really is, she ate the man I originally came here to find and murder. The beast that gifted me my gifts yet stole away everything else." He was so calm about everything. The control freak may not have had complete control of all of his forms anymore, but he enjoyed that great mental control to direct his emotions. "Anything you ask, Ash." And he ment it. He looked to Ash with cool and calm eyes, but inside his heart screamed for purpose. This recluse, useless, no job to benefit anyone but himself shit was for the dogs.
Cadence had made her way toward the other pack house to see if anyone was around to hang out with them since work had made her so busy she hardly seen anyone and Geller's house was empty at the moment so she jump into her cube and made her way over toward where Ash and them lived. Not realizing that something was going on. Driving up the drive and placing the car into park and turning it off she stepped out into yard and could feel the power lingering on the air which made her blink some.
Cadence would close the door to her car and made her way up to the porch as she lightly knocked on the door before opening the door. " Hello anyone home? " Then she would lean her head into the house to see if anyone was within to see Ash and Daniel restraining Alex. Before biting her bottom lip " Sorry..I didn't know this was going on...need any help ? "
Part of Lou's problem, which she barely admitted to herself, was that she did crave touch... she was just to unsure of how to claim the contact she craved. Ash's arm slipping around her shoulders had tension easing from her in shudder from her as she pressed tightly against his hard from, his scent wrapping around and through her, sweeping away the terror that came along with the sensation being left behind yet again.
The rumble of Alex's truck spilled into the comforting moment, drawing her from the Ash's warmth as he stepped away. More settled now, she watched curiously as the frail blond stumbled from the truck and up the path, moving a step towards Daniel, drawing closer to the young wolf. Motion stilled as an icy chill raced along her spine at the viciousness of Alex's words. Xavier? How many times had she hidden behind Silent in the early days when that beast would come around? Knowing that it made her all the more tempting prey for him had never been enough to stop her from trying to hide from his focus.
Ash's order gave her was the trigger that released the wound up tension that had laced her when Xavier's words spewed from Alex's lips. She raced into the house, grabbing the phone and fumbling with the buttons until she managed to dial Geller's number, dancing lightly from one foot to the other as she waited for someone to pick up the line.
"Hey... its Lou. Ash... Ash said he needs Geller at the pack house five minutes ago." She relayed the message almost verbatim, trying to keep the tremors from lacing her voice. "Its Alex... and Xavier. Please... hurry."
Her fingers clutched tightly at the phone as she watched Ash bring Alex into the house, eyes widening at the orders he directed at Daniel. She nodded into the phone, "Alright," hanging up and following Ash into the living room.
"First aid kit... Geller said he's on his way." Her nose wrinkled at the scent of silver when Daniel returned with the restraints, making her way to the kitchen to search for the large kit she knew had to be about. It didn't take long for her to find it, getting a small bowl of warm water as well to wash away the cuts that had been inflicted on Alex's cheeks.
A nod was directed at Cadence when she entered, "Hey." A flicker of a wan smile was the best greeting she could offer as she passed her to bring the kit and water to the coffee table. She knelt there, opening the kit and tearing open some packets of gauze to lay out for Ash to use on Alex's cuts.
Alex was watching, but pushed to the sdie for most of Xavier's rant. She could see things her brother couldn't, and knew what Ash was gonna do even before she felt her body responding to the one word command. Legs tucking under her,and ass ploping down on the ground. Xavier raged in her mind now, as she started to regaine the control, and her strength drained to the point of collapse, she stared up at her Ulfric with wide eyes, and just nodded her head in rsponse to the mouthed words. She trusted Ash more than she trusted anyone in the world. she knew he wouldn't hurt her, or let her get hurt.
Xavier wasn't so sure of himself anymore. Alex could feel fear creeping in from him as she stared up at Ash, nuzzling against the hand that stroked her uninjured cheek, her hair. Then that one word. That word that was so compelling, and so perfectly logical. Sleep sounded like such a good idea, considering she really hadn't been sleeping worth a damn the last few months. NOt when every time she closed her eyes, she could see Xavier's escapades. Sinking into the darkness and the blissful oblivion of sleep.
Xavier was scared. Ash had seemed so god damn confidant..Alex on the other hand, was floating blisfully. More calm than she'd been in weeks. Ash had said to trust him...So she did simply that. She trust him as she always had, and trusted that he'd know how to fix this.
When she woke up however, was to the burn of silver against her skin, and the sting of wounds being treated from the blade earlier outside....Squirming, she let out a soft whimper at the feel of silver cuffs holding her arms behind her back, and her ankles held imoble. Alex wasn't a fan of silver. Really wasn't a fan of being held in place with it either. Not after the episode in the swamp with Xavier, but she knew it had to have been done for a reason. Taking a shuddering breath, she opened her eyes, and looked around her. Daniel standing near her feet. Lou holding a first aid kit...Ash cleaning the wounds....girl she sorta knew in the doorway.
Alex couldn't help but squirm against the cuffs again. Instinct. she had to fight it. Pulling a little too ahrd and jaring a shoulder, she stopped and looked up at Ash. "what's going on?" Her voice was horse, but it was back to her normal twang, and not the thick hillbilly drawl of her brother.
A good sign...but how long would it stay that way?
Ash could tell that there was sincerity in Daniel's offer to aid them in any way that he could. Unfortunetly, without the power to control and make use of the munin there wasn't much that any of them could do to solve this particular problem. All that they could do was try to make Alex as comfortable as possible given the rather unusual circumstances, and have her in as healthy a condition as possible for when Geller got there. Brushing the coolness of his palm over Alex's forehead he pushed back strands of blonde hair that stuck to the sweat and blood of her skin.
"You know where Silent keeps things around here Daniel? Can you fix Alex something to eat? Protein, something we can feed to her easily. It will help her control her beast more."
He asked and he explained in the same breath. Letting Daniel see to the food he took some of the clean gauze that Lou handed him and helped to clean and dress Alex's wounds. Later, when this was all over he could heal her more properly, but with Xavier still inside of her this was the best that they could do. His hands were used for one purpose most of the time, to bring death to creatures like the one dwelling inside Alex, but for the moment his touch was gentle and caring, trying as best he could to take care of his wolf.
"Thank you Louise. Cadence, can you get us some wash cloths from the bathroom and a bowl of cool water?"
It felt like Alex's temper was running too high, he wanted to cool her down and try to avoid her shifting. As Alex's eyes began to blink open her eyes he took a seat on the edge of the couch at her side. Seeing her struggle against the bonds he reached out with one hand and pressed firmly on her shoulder to make her ease back so she wouldn't disconnect a shoulder. Energy hummed soft and consoling from him to her, stilling the struggle inside her.
"Geller's on his way, he's going to help you with this."
If it could be shot down with a silver bullet or run through with a blade then Ash was the man to solve the problem, but he knew when to seek outside assistance. This was one of those times. There were gifts that others had that could help Alex far more than his own. The grip he had on Alex's shoulder eased up and he watched her look around the room and try to get a sense of what was going on.
"Lou can you bring some of those pillows over here and help me prop her up so we can feed her?"
Not wanting to leave Alex's side he let Lou bring pillows and then he carefully leaned forward and drew the small female into his arms. Pulling Alex's body up he let Lou arrange the pillows behind her before laying her back down carefully. Hoping that she was settled and as comfortable as possible he looked at Lou.
"Have you ever seen anything like this before? With a munin? I'm not sure if there's anything special Geller will need for.....whatever he's going to do."
In Ashes line of work there were always accoutrements; guns, crucifixes, holy water, blades, and maybe the occasional flame thrower. For all he knew Geller needed a priest a rabbi and a minister here for whatever exorcism he was to perform. Lacking experience with such things he was asking Lou since she had been a wolf longer than any of the others in the room. As Cadence and Daniel returned he looked to them as well with the same question posed. If there was anything they could do to prepare before Geller got there they had better do it now.
"Alex, I need you to eat. It would be bad for your beast to take control and if I have to hold off your shift it will make the whole process more chaotic."
Touching Alex's cheek once more softly he finally moved from his place at her side to let Daniel sit down and feed her. Then he moved to take the bowl of water and wash cloths from Cadence with a soft 'thank you' spoken. Poor Cadence. She had been there to help him, Alex, and Thad clean up Xaviers basement and now she was here for Xavier's final goodbye. It was poetic somehow. Moving towards the head of the couch he set the bowl down and wet one of the cloths, wringing it out until it was only damp, and then began to use it to gently dab at Alex's brow so he could cool her temperature a bit and clean up some of the blood stuck in her strands of blonde hair.
"You're nothing but trouble, you know that pet. But we love you. So I guess we'll just have to bloody well make it through this, like we always do."
It was said with a soft tone, that crisp accent making him harder to read. But for someone that knew Ash well the intention was clear. This was him attempting to be comforting, even though he feared he wasn't really cut out for it.
Daniel was off immediately an returned with a warm bowl of something that smelled nice and savory. It wasn't that he had tried to pick something out that was going to be delicious, but Ash said protein and the leftover roast that Daniel was going to eat for lunch would do. The red meat would be good for the protein and sit nice in her stomach. Daniel rounded her side and knelt by her head, picking some of the shredded meat up with a fork and delivering it to Alex's mouth. Here he sat feeding someone whom mutually disliked him at their last meeting, but he was so caring about it. "I owe you a life debt, Alex." He added to Ashes calming statements, speaking softly to her with a calming tone to his voice. "I will be there for you whenever you need me." He always thought that once word were spoken they couldn't be taken back, and he had said it. For now, he'd keep feeding her that delicious beef and pick around the veggies in the container. She needed the protien first and foremost.
Cadence would hear Ashes commands and made her way off toward the bathroom to grab up some towels and a bowl of cool water that he had asked for. After looking around a couple minutes she found what she needed and made her way out toward the living room where handed off the items to Ash as he held out his hand for them. " Your welcome and it's no problem. " Cadence would take a couple steps back to not be in the way. But close enough in case they needed her to do something else to help.
Lou knelt quietly, taking away the used gauze and providing more as Ash needed it in helping Alex, amber eyes dark with worry for the blond wolf. At Ash's request she rose to get pillows from the other couch slipping them behind Alex as he gently lifted her from the couch.
Ash's question had her head shaking slowly. "The only time I've really seen munin have been when they were called." Lower lip was nibbled on, suddenly hesitant. "There was... it wasn't like this though. There was someone who... he was a lot like..." She gestured at Alex, not even wanting to say Xavier's name out loud. "He.. would hunt wolves and he used to say his victims were always with him, that he could still hear them screaming and it... put him to sleep." Her arms curled around herself in a tight hug, trying to restrain the shudder at the memories. "We... we figured if we killed him it would free the others but... I don't know. I think that its might be something she's doing. Not on purpose.. but its.. its her. But I don't know."
It had always seemed that way before, whenever she'd seen the munin they were called, it wasn't that they could just take over. Maybe somehow Alex had done this but didn't know how to let go.
She moved to perch on the edge of the other couch, watching as Daniel settled to feed Alex, wishing she had a pad and pencil, something to keep her hands busy, to vent some of the tension.
+On the drive to the pack house Geller had called Jenna to tell her that he would be late, but had to settle for leaving a voice message instead. All too often these days they seemed to be forced to communicate more and more through one anothers voicemail. It could be disheartening but he just took it as a sign of a busy season. Things would slow down again and no doubt they'd all be happy to get back to normal. As he turned the Caddy into the driveway of the pack house he eyed Alex's truck that was parked there with the lights still on and the engine running. Even though there was nothing particularly going on outside that was odd enough to let him know that he was about to walk into something bizarre.+
+Cutting his own engine he left the windows down on the Caddy and tossed the keys up on the dashboard. The only car jackers he had to worry about out here were pack members playing a prank so it seemed pretty safe. Slipping out of the car he went around to Alex's truck and leaned in to pull her keys out of the ignition and cut the lights so her battery wouldn't run dry by morning. Her keys were set out on the dashboard as well before he pulled out of the truck and shut the door behind him. At this point he wasn't rushing, mainly because if what was inside couldn't wait five minutes with Ash there to watch things then they were in deeper shit than Geller could fix anyway.+
+His stride was even as he mounted the steps of the porch and began to slowly disassemble the shields that guarded him twenty-four hours a day. If there was one thing Geller did better than anything else it was blend into the human world. While others had spent time fighting and trying to climb the food chain he had been in Tibet learning to guard his beast so well that even among lycanthropes he could sometimes pass as human. As a chef it was very important, but more than that it had kept him out of the in-fighting and insanity that he abhorred in most cities. Now though he stripped those shields away to try to feel what it was that he was approaching.+
+Munin was the name of Odin's Raven and the word essentially meant "memory". Most people associated the munin with the actual spirit of the departed, but in reality it was more complex than that. A pack could not literally eat the soul of the departed, but they consumed the memory of the spirit. Geller knew that it was not really Xavier inside Alex, but the memories and quintessential essence of him that lived within her. As he moved into the house and towards the sound of voices in the living room he was breathing in the scent of the wolves and feeling for the touch of something 'other' among them.+
"Ash, is everybody alright?"
+His black and silver whorled eyes glances from person to person and noted that for the time being Alex was the one who seemed to have incurred all of the damage during whatever had gone on. Coming closer he slipped his hands out of the pocket of his woolen pea coat and rubbed them together like he was trying to ward off the cold. Really though he was concentrating on the feeling of energy stirring around Alex. Thick lips gave a smile to Cadence and he waved the tips of his fingers in Lou's direction, never one for formal pack greetings and besides, this hardly seemed like the time. The closer he got the more he could feel this munin, and the more that part of him opened up like a vast and gaping maw, the power curious as always at the invited remembrance.+
"I think maybe.....it would be best if you left Alex and I alone." His eyes moved to Alex who was being fed by Daniel. "If that's alright with Alex."
Alex was starting to feel slightly claustraphobic with so many people around her all at once. Lou and Ash cleaning up the injuries that were inflicted. Then her being held by Ash as Lou piled pillows behind and around her, and Daniel feeding her the meat, and she looked at him, frowning slightly when he mentioned he owed her a life debt. shaking her head, she chewed and swallowed automatically. More because Ash told her to than anything else. "...I don't know what you mean...I didn't...He needed to die..just...didn't think this was gonna be the result..." She shoulda begged Ash to kill him back in hawaii. Either that or drowned the fucker herself while there. Xavier never could swim well.
The cool, damp cloth on her brow brought her attention up to Ash, and lips twitched slightly, shaking her head at Daniel when he held out another bite. She was starting to feel slightly sick. Giving another squirm, she couldn't help but hiss at the silver, and closed her eye's a moment, then opened, blue grey's meeting those lightning kissed blues of her ulfric. Lips twitching slightly once more and almost making it into a smile. "We need to work on your comfort skills...." voice soft, and still slightly horse. "maybe we should just lock me in my room...can't get in trouble if i don't go anywhere..." Eye's slid shut again, and she tried to relax. something easier said than done.
Lou's statement, that this was something Alex was doing herself, she growled, and struggled to sit up. "I'm not doing anything...I didn't ask for captian hillbilly fucktard to take up residence in my damn head or whatever the fuck is going on...."she didn't mean to snap at Lou, but her temper was short as it was, and she was just tired of all of it. Tired of fighting with Xavier's ghost or spirit or munin or whatever the fuck it was that was doing this. Growling again, she took a deep breath, and closed her eyes, speaking quietly. "m'sorry Lou...."
THe added energy of another wolf enterting the house, and the familar scent of Geller had her eyes opening again, seeing him taking everything in, and assessing the situation. Looking up at him as he came forward with hands rubbing together infront of him, she waited. Alex's usual energy was there, but it seemed faint. Over laying it all was something sick and twisted. Cruel and sadistic. Alex just nodded her head when he said that they should be left alone for this. Shivering slightly, she whispered "okay...anything. just make this stop please...make him go away...." those last notes were pleading, and slightly desperate.
Alex realized then though, that even though she didn't know Geller all that well, she trusted him to help her. Knew that he would do what he could to help her. And at this point, that was something she clung to.
Geller's question made him pause a moment and glance at the other man as he entered the living room. The water and wash towels were set on one of the end tables as he turned away from Alex to move towards his Lupe. For a moment the two men just looked at each other, communicating between themselves in a way that the others couldn't register, before Ash finally spoke.
"Everyone's alright for now. But you know what you need to do."
The issue with Xavier's munin had already been discussed. Ash had spoken to Cypress first and to the medium Declan in order to gain some peripheral knowledge of what could be done. He wasn't entirely positive that Alex was going to like what they had decided, but there wasn't much of a choice. When Geller asked for privacy he nodded and turned to the others.
"Let's go outside. Geller, when you finish, come out and see me. We need to discuss some things before you go."
Ash was going to go outside with the others but before he did he wanted a moment to speak to Alex. He knelt down on one knee beside the couch and touched her arm lightly with one hand. The touch of his power whispered over her skin as he looked down at her with eyes that sparked with electric blue light. There was concern there, but a confidence that she was going to be alright. His cool hand moved slowly up and down the length of her arm as he spoke.
"You're going to be alright Alex, and soon this will be over. When Geller's finished, you can stay here with us and we'll take care of you."
A light squeeze was given to Alex's arm and then he rose from the ground with practiced ease. Moving towards the back doors of the house to follow the others outside he didn't look back, he trusted his Lupe to take care of this. From his back pocket he pulled out his cell phone to send a text to Silent, then to a few other members of the wolf pack. Tonight he wanted as many of the wolves as possible there to surround Alex.
~ Cadence would be leaning against the wall by the door with her hands across her stomach some watching and listening to make sure she wasn't asked to do something else. Then she could feel Geller approach the house within minutes he was in the living room. Seeing the little wave he gave her she would give him a wave back. ~
~ Then she would hear them say they needing to be alone. So turning to make her way outside for now. She would take a seat on the steps watching everyone else that needed to leave to file out of the house. But also she would give a wave to Lou for her saying hi earlier. She hadn't been able to return it because of Ash asking her to go get towels and a bowl of water. But now she could..hopefully they get to chat some while they waited for Geller to finish ~
Sirus never dared deny his mentor, and in some cases, unofficial brother, in anything let alone a pack member in need of contact. Sirus looked to Dee for her reaction and nodded plainly.
The text had the white stalker stirring in anticipation for a battle in the metaphysical realm. He had no idea why Ash beckoned them to the pack house and the reasons to their unification tonight made him cycle through all possibilities.
"You drive? My car is still at the pack house."
His tone was dry and his words brief. Urgency assumed control of the situation and so help God he didn't want to waste another minute standing idly around while Alex suffered from whatever vague demons plagued her.
"The insanity doesn't stop for anyone, does it?"
A nervous chuckle lifted from the depths of his throat; no, it couldn't be refused.
Daniel slipped out to the porch without a fuss, after all, Geller seemed to be the only one particularly expert in dealing with whatever plagued Alex. Once he was out on the porch, he stood facing away from the home, breathing in the cooler air and sighing it back out. His energy pulsed as it normally did, never hidden, always exposed at least to some degree. That would end up biting him directly in the ass eventually. The nature of the canine inside was beginning to agitate him, even if he hadn't shown it outwardly. The beast pulle him this way and that on the inside, choosie with those it pushed him at, but still without any regard for the situation at hand. It was almost a if he could hear the maddening snarles in his head. 'They haven't even regonised you.' 'No respect here.' 'They'll never show you anything if you don't make it happen.' All of those thoughts that rolled through his head were simply figments of his imagination. Creations of his own fantastical wonder, but even as such they were annoying. He knew where he stood at the moment. He was the recluse that no one really knew. Some robot like boy who was just a pup with a niche for sticking his chest out. If he believed in a Devine deity, he would ask it if Tokyo had really made him that way. Curse that city. He turned to Ash and smiled softly, speaking carefully. Last thing he needed was an ass whipping from the head man. "I apologize to bother you. I know you may be out here, but your mind is still in there. Since I know it is a bad time, I was wondering of you had time in your schedule anywhere that we might be able to talk." Daniel had something on his mind, and was taking what seemed to him the right direction to fixing some of his personal issues.
Alex's snarled words had Lou flinching, murmuring a soft "i'm sorry," as she slipped from the couch to retreat from the bound wolf. She hadn't meant to sound accusing, just that maybe Alex was one of those with a gift for speaking to the munin but had no control over her talent and that was what was causing the issue. Alex's apology had her ducking her head slightly, "sokay," before she continued her retreat to the door.
The sound of another vehicle approaching the house had her head canting to the door, a nod given to Geller when he arrived.
Ash's command to step outside and let Geller work was obeyed immediately, slipping out to the back and claiming one of the chairs. She pulled her legs up, heels hooking on the edge of the chair as she curled tightly within it.
She dug in her pockets, finally finding a small pad and a bit of a pencil. Flipping to an empty page she began to sketch, doodle really, soothed by the familiar actions. Little by little faces appeared on the page, bare hints of Ash's eyes, the curve of Cadence's cheeks, a shadow of Daniel's profile.
She could feel the restless energy of the others, it had her hand stilling, peeking through the tangled curls of her hair at the others.
While they sat outside waiting for Geller to tend to Alex he closed his eyes a moment and listened to the cicadas sing among the trees. It was peaceful here for him, though possibly only because he had no real history in this city. For people like Lou, Silent, or even Milo New Orleans had a haunting past that seemed unwilling to let them go. As if his thoughts controlled his body for the moment he let his eyes drift open and looked to Lou as she sketched quietly on one side of the table. Her pencil moved with rabid yet fluent whisps across the page and he wondered what she found inspiration in here among them. Daniel's voice broke through his reverie and he glanced across at the other man.
"It may take them awhile, so we can go for a walk now if you'd like mate. "
Movement seemed like a preferable option to him rather than simply sitting around and waiting. Ash always preferred action to inaction when there was a choice to be made. Rising from his seat he let his hand fall to Lou's shoulder as he passed her, feeling the tickle of the strands of her red hair against his skin before his hand slipped away.
"If they finish just give us a call, I'll feel it." Then to Cadence he added, "And if the others show up just have everyone bunker down in the master bedroom for tonight. Alex could use all the warmth of the pack."
Moving away from the others he nodded for Daniel to follow him. They moved across the crunch of landscaped grass, past the glow of the electric lights of the house, and into the untrimmed and untamed lands that the packs used to hunt. The plantation had swamps, but it also had miles and miles of running ground stretching out in front of them. Ash could only imagine what this place had been like in the days when these fields were filled with subsistence crops to be picked by slave labor. It reminded him that sometimes change was a good thing.
Cadence would stretch along the steps letting bones pop and crack as she stretch which really felt good to do since her body felt like it was smashed into a little box but not literally . Then letting blue orbs dance to the sky to see the stars as she bits her bottom lip. Hearing the scrapping of a pencil on paper she glance in the direction in which the sound was coming from. It was Lou so sliding from her sitting spot on the steps she moved to look over her shoulder at the pictures she was sketching. " Wow Lou that is amazing...have you ever thought about doing artwork for like galleries or something? You can make some good money by doing that. " She looks down at Lou with a smile.
Then her head would perk when Ash spoke to her telling her to let everyone know that they would be bunkering down in the master room. " Alright I'll let everyone know when they arrive .." Then watched as Ash and Daniel walked off to talk .
Dee and Sirus pulled up to the pack house in her black Hummer. Of course she would drive; she drove the Hummer like it was a freakin tank that destroyed everything in it's war path. When they arrived, she saw Ash and Daniel head into the woods. Perhaps a man conference? And then everyone else was outside on the steps. They must have just missed Geller because his scent was heavy in the air, but nowhere to be found.
It looked everything was under control. So why was Dee and Sirus here? For protection and comfort. Dee slowly let down her shields, and allowed that beautiful, colorful timber wolf emerge from the surface; warmth and war-strength power enveloped the room as the scent of wild orchids and gun powder filled the atmosphere. It lightly caressed Alex, wrapping her in a blanket of protection. Perhaps it may not help the wounds, but it definitely made Alex feel more peaceful and reassured that she has people around that love and care about her. And if Ash wanted Dee and Sirus to stay with her tonight, sleeping in the same bed with all of them, they would.
She also took the moment to glance at Lou, and watch her pencil dance along the pad. It looked like she was drawing the scene. Art always amazed Dee, and how talented people could be.
After Geller had finished with Alex she probably went outside to let the others know. So by the time Ash and Daniel returned from their walk the wolves had most likely already headed towards bed. The two men would be the last to climb into the puppy pile that had come together to comfort Alex after the ordeal that she'd been through. His power and his scent rolled over his wolves as they slept warm, close, and safe together.
Later there would likely be covers stolen, shins kicked, and pillows drooled on. For now though, they looked peaceful and at home around one another. After everyone lay still he too began to drift off to sleep and hoped that the future held a little calm between storms for this pack who so richly deserved it. Sometimes comforting the pack was more important than any battle you could ever fight on their behalf. That had been a lesson he took a long time to learn.
