After throwing Cole through a fucking window Johnny knew that his time with the city tigers had pretty well run its course.  Bunch’a softies.  He’d called Evie later that night and got the news that he had knocked his bitch Queen up good and proper as well as finding out that Hunter was no longer going to be a problem.  Seemed the Queen was none to happy to discover that her pet retard had lied to her about the Delassixe kid.  Things were going exactly according to Johnny’s plan.  Without much of a goodbye to Jenna’s tigers he left a note for the White Queen herself; assuming that the woman could read his almost illiterate script.

“Jenny (who knew, maybe he was nicknaming her or maybe he’d never really known her name to begin with) thank fir the help.  Ro and I r heding home to the bayoo.  Johnny”

Once he and Rosie hit the swamps he challenged King Jo.  Since the child festering in the Queen’s belly was his it was his right to do so and there wasn’t a damn thing Evie could do to stop him.  Their fight had left Johnny heavily wounded but still kicking, in fact most of the kicking was done to the Kings body as he lay dying.  After that, things were ideal for awhile.  He had his ban lifted and could fuck his way through the tigers of Fire Bayou with impunity as Evie lay smoking and drinking in her bed waiting for the baby to come.

Then, about a month into his new perfect life, Evie got that old idea back in her head.  She started screaming about that Delassixe woman and her kid, about her Prince Rory fuckwits who had died because of Natalie.  Evie wanted revenge for what had been stolen from her.  At first Johnny slapped her down, told her to shut it, but the woman wouldn’t let well enough alone.  When Evie wanted something there was fuck all you could do to talk her out of it.  Almost every damn plate in their trailer had been thrown at him and he’d had countless cigarettes put out on his skin when he finally agreed to do as she asked.  It was just one little human kid after all, how hard could it be to kill one fucking kid.

Queen Evie sent him to the Delassixe house under the cover of darkness with three of the other tigers.  If it had been up to her she would’ve sent their best fighters, all for a fucking kid, but Johnny fought her on that one.  Leaving the better fighters home to guard the Queen he took three lesser tigers with him including his young cousin Paul Ray.  Personally, he thought it was a waste and an insult to take anyone with him at all.  Fuck, what’d Evie think? That the kid and his mommy had nuclear weapons stashed in their suburban home?

That night there was a strong scent of rat around the place, but he’d already met Natalie’s boyfriend; the rat Tommy.  Sure, the man was a rat but he didn’t look like he’d be tough to dispatch if it came to that.  Any other rat scent around the place he just assumed were from Tommy or possibly recent visitors.  Inside the house he could feel the energy of Tommy sleeping in bed with his human, so the tigers circled the house until they found the window of the kids bedroom.

“Ah’m gonna light that little shit up in flames boys.  Let Eve watch him burn and scream.  That aught’a shut the bitch up.”

Talking in low voices amongst themselves the tigers chuckled as they stood outside the window.  Joe Jack had a big canvas sack with him that Johnny intended to throw the kid into so they could haul him away, and Paul Ray was hopping excitedlyfrom foot to foot and holding onto a ball gag to shove in the kids mouth.  Where he’d gotten that damn bit a kink was anyone’s guess, but it would come in handy if the little shit started to yowling.  Johnny was about half way through the window with Ruby Lee holding it open for him when the shit hit the fan.

In about a five minutes span all their plans went straight to hell in a hand basket.  Johnny lit some fucking rat up good, but Joe Jack and Paul Ray were dead in the grass, and Ruby Lee took a shot before the rat ran off like a fucking coward.  Never mind that a four on one fight was hardly fair.  Johnny still thought the rat was a coward for running.  Ruby Lee took off after the rat, and Johnny had to decide whether to go or stay.  Alone he didn’t want to deal with the cop bitch and her shotgun so giving chase sounded like a fine idea.

From his pocket he pulled out something he’d intended to leave on the kids bed.  Instead he stuck it through with his knife and buried the blade into the side of the house.  It was a picture of Rory, stabbed through with his knife but still the young man in the picture was visible.  Natalie had killed the Queens son, and they were gonna get her brat in her Rory’s place.  He didn’t know how, but they’d be back and that kid would be a blood smear before they were through.  Taking off into the night he raced to catch up to Ruby Lee as they gave chase after the rat.

They had to kill him, it was the only answer.  No witnesses to the event could be left alive.  Little did he know the tall fuck was fast, and they nearly lost him in the park.  But fate stepped in and slowed the man down at one point so that they nearly caught him, but when the smell of other rats got thick Johnny finally growled a warning to Ruby Lee and they slowed their approach.  Ruby Lee was bleeding and there were too many rat smells around this place for Johnny to feel as confident about getting much closer.  So they stalked the shadows of the Rodere house, waiting and watching in the darkness.

When the big fucker showed up on his bike and gave that awful hiss Johnny’s confidence faded further.  He knew what that sound was intended to mean.  They had to get back to the bayou and tell the Queen about this.  Evie was gonna be madder than a hatter, but this was getting more serious than just fucking with a human and her kid.  The whole way back to Fire Bayou Johnny was trying to think of a way to talk Evie out of this, but he knew that talking sense to her was about as likely to work as talking color to a blind man.

Life with Natalie and Kevin was everything that Tommy had always dreamed about.  Here he had a family, a woman that he loved, and people who wanted him.  Things were so good that he began to doubt his own precognitive instincts, blaming it on the spirits of his guitar or his own paranoia.  Nothing was wrong, there was nothing to worry about.  He almost regretted getting Milo and the rats involved in something that seemed to be nothing at all.  When the King got back he told himself that he would call off the watch guards and they could just go on living life peacefully.

That night he was curled up with Natalie in bed, warm and comfortable, both of them sleeping peacefully.  It was the sound of a gunshot that woke him with a start.  The second shot came soon after and that woke Natalie by his side.  She was only seconds behind him as they both raced towards Kevin’s room.  Tommy raced that way because his lycan hearing told him that was where the shots were coming from.  Maybe it was the same for Natalie, or maybe it was a mothers instinct that made her run that way instead of for the outside of the house.

By the time they reached Kevins room the window had slammed shut and he could just make out a man outside.  He looked familiar, but for the moment Tommy couldn’t place him.  Kevin was crying and racing towards Natalie’s arms.  Letting Natalie take Kevin out of the room he noticed that she already had a gun in her hand.  She was both a mother and a cop, so he didn’t doubt she’d be competent with the gun.  In the hallway he could hear Natalie on the phone but he wasn’t concentrating on the words.

The man outside the window was gone and Tommy could smell them getting further away.  It was the smell that tipped his memory as he moved to open the window.  The smell belonged to the tiger who had come by with Caspian that day on the porch, the man Natalie had pulled a shotgun on.  Leaning out the window, sure by scent alone that whatever was out there was dead or dying, he saw the knife sticking in the window frame.  Wrestling with it a second the wood frame of the window scraped at his back.

He pulled the knife out o f the wood and had time to look at the bodies on the ground as he ducked back inside.  Seperating the picture from the knife he wasn’t thinking about evidence since he wasn’t a cop, he was just thinking about figuring out what the hell was happening.  Knox’s scent and the tigers were itching at his nose and he hoped the rat knight was alright.  When he made it to the hallway he saw Natalie hanging up the phone with Kevin glued to her side.

“Nat, do you know who this is?”

He held the picture out towards her and saw dawning recognition light in her eyes.  Tommy rubbed Kevin’s back lightly as Natalie told him about the man in the picture. Then Tommy tried to explain about the Rodere watching the house, and about the bodies outside being taken out by one of them.  He didn’t mention a name, but she didn’t seem to care as much about that as the fact that Kevin was safe.   In the distance he heard the sound of sirens and inwardly struggled with a desire to run.  Natalie seemed to see it in him and realize that for him being picked up by the police would mean severely different consequences than for her.  Lycans were often taken as guilty until proven innocent rather than the other way around and there were two dead bodies outside.

“I love you.”

It was all that he could think to say as she urged him to go.  Crouching down he kissed Kevin on the head gently and promised the boy he’d be back, told him to look out for his mother.  Kevin sniffled and nodded but his hand clung to Tommy’s arm as he stood.  Kissing Natalie was all he could do and he didn’t really have time for that, but he hated to leave her even with the safety of her unit bearing down on them.  She promised to contact him as soon as she could and then she pushed him away.

Stumbling back he nodded, understanding that each of them had to do what they had to do.  The police was her world and she would handle that end of things.  He had his own world to make contact with and check on.  Not waiting to grab clothes he went out the back door that led through the kitchen and into the back yard.  He had only a second to grab his phone off the kitchen counter as he passed.  The fence swung open in the yard so he headed that way, shivering like crazy in just his boxers as he tried to weave through the alleys and streets and put distance between himself and the house that was being surrounded by police cars and emergency vehicles.

Once he could no longer hear the sirens he slowed enough to dial a number on his phone with shaking hands.  The number he dialed was for the house where Milo picked up and told him Otis was on his way to get him.  Nearly stumbling he hung up the phone and called Otis hoping the man could hear the phone on his bike.  When Otis answered Tommy almost cried with relief.  Hands shaking he tried to spit out his words.

“Don’t go to the house, Natalie’s there dealing with the police.  I’m a few blocks away on Page Street.  I’ll wait here for you.”

Staying crouched in the shadow of a house he waited and hoped that Otis could track his scent.  There wasn’t much else he could do at this point since wandering around the street in his underwear would likely get the cops called on him anyway.  His bare feet were mud soaked and cold, his bare skin covered in gooseflesh, and he was trying to put all the pieces of this together as he crouched there waiting to hear the tell tale sound of a bikes rumble that would signal Otis’s arrival.

Tigers or not, Tommy didn't believe that Caspian had anything to do with this.  He didn't know what was going on but he felt sure about that instinct.  One way to tell would be to call the man.  If Caspian was willing to come to the Rodere house then it would go a long way towards proving his innocence.  While he waited he called and left Caspian a message at the number Natalie had given him for the man.  By the time he hung up the phone Otis was rolling by on his Chopper.

Running from the shadows he flagged the man down and didn't hesitate to hop on the back of the bike and cling to the warm body in front of him.  Thankfully, Otis didn't ask a lot of crazy questions, he just drove.  Tommy was sure that he'd have to explain things soon enough and he didn't want to have to do it twice.  All the way back to the Rodere house he was saying silent prayers that Natalie and Kevin would be alright.  He could deal with anything else, as long as nothing happened to the two of them.

Otis was no fuckin' fool. With shit going down at the house he wasn't about to just ride up to the front door, especially on a ride even a human could hear from 4 blocks away. No, once he got to the neighborhood he'd slowed the bike down to the grumbling crawl, cruising in a slow circular path around where Natalie's house was, keeping at least 3 blocks away while he let his nose and ears pick up those details that his eyes could not.

The scream of sirens had him cursing under his breath along with the glare of red and blue racing for the area. Guess that whole Neighborhood Watch thing really fuckin' worked. He was about to park the bike and start heading into the area on foot when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

"Yeah.... fuckin' A Tommy, you good?" He listened to the other end, nodding. "two seconds kid."

He respected Tommy in a lot of ways but the kid (not that he was really a kid anymore) sounded shaken to the core. A twist of the throttle had the big bike roaring to life and the screech of rubber along pavement preceding the sight of lights brightening dark windows as he headed down the street.

It didn't take long for him to find Tommy, skidding the bike to a halt as the ghostly figure of pale-as-can-fuckin-be-half-naked kid slipped from the bushes. "Shit kid, you really need to get some fuckin' sun." Dark humor? Something to help break the tension maybe? Either way, once he was doing his leech impersonation the throttle was twisted again, sending the bike off down the street.

This was no time to talk but he let his power wrap around Tommy, he wasn't Milo by any stretch but he had practice with Alex of being a short term substitute.

Getting back to the Rodere house took no time at all, especially since speed limits were things only other people paid attention too. As he pulled the bike into the driveway he noticed a car missing, filing that away for later questions before letting Tommy dismount.

"Let's get you inside before the neighbor's call fuckin' ghost hunters."
