Maddox had gone out of town on an assignment, something they both knew would happen, and she had been taking care of the dogs. His trip couldn’t of come at a worse time, because it was shortly after she took him to see her Pa’s plantation, and of course, he got to deal with Miz Mary and he had the bonus of meeting Matt. That whole day, well it had put what one would call a strain on things, and that was something she was unsure of.
It was funny though, because when she thought of whom she wanted to talk to, one person came to mind. Perhaps it wasn’t the smartest choice, but who said that she always made the smartest choices, she never claimed to.
Fingers on the phone pressed the button to call him, and she would wait to see if he answered or if it went to voice mail. It felt funny to actually call him, she always used text to contact him, but this wasn’t a normal contact from her to him.
If he answered the phone she would speak the following, in that honeyed twang of hers. “Hey Nate…it’s Peach…” She would then wait to see if he said anything, not wanting to rush along.
If he did not answer the phone she would leave a message. “Hey Nate…it’s Peach. Sorry I missed you. Please give me a call if you get a free moment or ten.”
Nate had been out and about and was for once actually in the city and not at the pride house. Things had been quiet there as they usually were and he was on one of his escapes to end the monotony. Hearing his cell he knew the ringtone without having to look. She was the only one with the Mario them song that played and the picture that displayed on his phone was not of her but of the screen "Sorry Your Princess is in another castle." He thought it was funny since she was Princess Peach to him.
"Hey stranger. Hows life?"
He asked pulling into a parking spot near the edge of the park. He was in running clothes a new ritual to pull himself out of the house and help keep his visions at bay.
When he answered she paused a moment and she felt her lips quirking upwards. "Life is going alright." She paused. "I was wondering if you had a few moments for a friend?" They had said they were going to work on that, and well, right now she needed that part of him. Her gaze was drifting around the room, because she needed to get out, at least for a little while. Mom still missing in action, boyfriend working on covering some action, made her want to do something.
And that would of given her a kick if she would of known that ringtone and that picture would show up on his phone. Not that she played much Mario but at least she knew that one.
