Calling An Old Friend (Open to Ash)

-After bagging and tagging the file sent over from the Feds into the vault of her mind she had to get things cleared up at the Station.  Not that it would take much.  Paperwork had to be filed and she placed a call in to HR to check on the status of her partner request forms, then there was nothing left but to go home and pack for a little jaunt to the deep south.  Home territory.  Leaving the building she almost immediately peeled off the navy suit jacket she'd put on for work to cut down on the opression of the heat.  Laying the jacket over an arm she moved through the parking lot towards her black 1969 Dodge Charger and balanced her cell phone against her ear to place that long overdue call to an old acquaintance.-

"Redfern, I bet you'll never in a million years guess where I've landed.  Then again, knowing you this is probably old news."

-Yeah, Ash had a way of just knowing things.  Slipping the key into the drivers side door she twisted it to hear that pop of doors unlocking and then opened the door to let the car air out some from the sweltering heat.  Leaning inside she stretched an arm out to drape her navy jacket over the back of the passenger seat.-

"I transfered from Vegas to New Orleans a few weeks ago.  I'd apologize for not calling sooner but I know you don't care so I won't bother.  Listen, I just got called in on a Federal case with a Titus Morgan, you know him?"

-Perching on the edge of the drivers seat she put the keys in the ignition and started up the car hearing the power of the custom built engine as it roared to life like the triumphant shout of her own beast.  Reaching over to crank the AC up she made sure all the vents were open then stood up again and closed the door.-

"This perps a little different.  A bit of an anomoly you might say.  I thought before I take off I'd see if you want first crack or if you have any advise on the matter."

-Chris leaned casually against the side of the car, letting the AC cool the interior while she baked in the sun, soaking up the rays like sustenance.  She was damn good at her job, wouldn't be alive if she weren't, and there were some things she'd even put her in a top five slot at handling, but Ash Redfern was in a class by himself.  In the world of monsters he was a living legend and anyone not happy to garner some wisdom from that expertise was either stupid or too cocky for their own good.-

"Can you meet me tonight? Won't take up much of your time I swear.  Quick and relatively painless."

-There was no real comraderie between them, not in the traditional sense.  They knew one another because on occasion they'd worked a case together.  It was business only and neither of them was interested in more; not even the occasional slumber party.  After hearing his agreement of dismissal she made last minute arrangements and then hung up, phone slipped into the side pocket of her slacks.  Opening the door of the Charger she could feel that the AC had been working its magic.  Good thing too or her white blouse would have pit stains that would need a dry cleaner to get them out.-

There was a fairly serious backlog of calls that he had to return since he had been neglecting technology lately in favor of face to face encounters.  When he remembered the small talk with Chris and the fact that he had told her he would call back to set up a time and place to meet.  Now that several days had passed he felt just a smidgeon of guilt at having delayed so long in contacting her.  As he called her back he moved through the ongoing schedule book in his head and realized that pretty soon it wouldn't be a Skoll he would need at his side but a bloody secretary.

"Parker, it's Redfern.  Listen I don't know if you're still planning on working that case with Morgan but if you are I may have some items that would interest you.  I'll be at the Hookah tonight taking care of some other things so stop by if you haven't left already.  Feel free to bring Morgan along, the three of us together aught to scare the pants off the locals.  If I missed you then give me a ring or stop by when you get back in town.  It would be good to see you again."

His cultured voice was cool and had a seamlessly dry tone to it, but he was trying to sound friendly which might have been the truly disturbing part.  Hanging up without a real good-bye he hoped she would just find him next time so they wouldn't have to bother with the damn telephone.  Never had he wished so much that he could just microchip his brain with the technology that he needed.  It would save him the bother of having to remember to return phone calls.
