H I S T O R Y :

Nephilim. A servant of God, an Angel as we've grown up knowing, came down from the Heavens, took a mortal wife and shared love, and that love bore a child. Dita Von Teese was born on September 28, 1972 in Rochester, Michigan. Her mother was a manicurist, and her stepfather was a machinist at a company that made graphite. She is of partly Armenian heritage, but her true demeanor is a Nephilim, particularly a Virtue. Growing up, she never met her real father Nathaniel, the Angel that impregnated her mother, but she knew from the beginning that she was different. As a child, she was truly like a healer whenever one of her childhood friends were injured. She was the first one there, and every time she helped them with their injuries, her touch alone brought peace, and their crying would cease.

Dita is well known for her fascination with the 1940s cinema and classic retro style. This began at a young age and was fostered by her mother, who would buy clothes for her daughter to dress up in. Her mother was a fan of old, Golden-era Hollywood films, and it was from her that Dita developed a fascination with the actresses of that day, especially Betty Grable. She was classically trained as a ballet dancer from an early age, and danced solo at age thirteen for a local ballet company. Though she originally wanted to be a ballerina, Dita believed she was as good as she'll ever be by fifteen. She was later to incorporate this element into her burlesque shows, where she frequently goes en pointe. The family relocated from Michigan to Orange County, California, when her stepfather's job moved, and Dita attended University High School in Irvine. As a teenager, Dita's mother took her to buy her first bra, made from plain white cotton, and gave her a plastic egg containing a pair of wrinkly, flesh-colored tights. Dita was disappointed as she had been hoping to receive beautiful lacy garments and stockings, of the type she had glimpsed in her stepfather's Playboy magazines. This fueled her passion for lingerie. She worked in a lingerie store as a salesgirl when she was fifteen, eventually as a buyer. Dita has been fond of wearing elaborate lingerie such as corsets and Basques with fully fashioned stockings ever since.

In high school, she was the head dancer on the dancing team, and whenever her high school friends would get in trouble, she was always there, feeling this aching yearn to help them. It wasn't often that Dita committed one of the seven deadly sins, but the one time she did, she was in the most excruciating, agonizing pain she had ever felt in her life, causing a disfigurement to her nose, and after she swore never to commit a sin as long as she lived. She never forgot the pain. This was when she discovered that she knew she was different; she wasn't just human. After telling her mother what happened, especially noticing how oddly disfigured her nose had become, her mother decided to finally tell her who her father truly was. She explained to Dita that her father is an Angel, a servant of God, and when he came down to earth, they fell in love, and bore a child. She told Dita that she was a Nephilim, part human and part angel, so when she committed a sin, it would feel as if she was dying because of her descent from God. And it also explained her yearning to help people because of God's love for mortals.

In college, Dita studied historic costuming and aspired to work as a stylist for period films. Her career started off when she achieved some level of recognition in the fetish world as a tightlacer. Through the wearing of a corset for many years, she had reduced her natural waistline to 22 inches, and can be laced down as far as 16.5 inches. A thin person already, Dita stands at 5 Ft 5" and weighs 114 pounds. She appeared on a number of fetish magazine covers, including Bizarre and Marquis, and it was also around the time when she appeared on the cover of Midori's book, The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage. She was also featured in Playboy in 1999, 2001, and 2002, with a cover-featured pictorial in 2002. Dita began performing burlesque in 1992 and, as a proponent of New Burlesque, has helped to popularize its revival. She has been frequently dubbed "the Queen of Burlesque" in the press. She puts the tease back into striptease with long, elaborate dance shows with props and characters, often inspired by 1930s and 1940s musicals and films. Some of her more famous dances have involved a carousel horse, a giant powder compact, a filigree heart and a clawfoot bathtub with a working shower head. Her feather fan dance, inspired by burlesque dancer Sally Rand, featured the world's largest feather fans. Her signature show features a giant martini glass.

Her burlesque career has included some memorable performances. She once appeared at a benefit for the New York Academy of Art wearing nothing but $5 million worth of diamonds. Additionally, Dita became the first guest star to perform at the Parisian Crazy Horse cabaret club with her appearance in October 2006. Also in 2006, she appeared on an episode of America's Next Top Model cycle 7 doing a workshop to teach the contestants about sexiness by means of burlesque dancing and posing. She also published her first book, which consisted of her opinions on the history of burlesque and fetish, in 2006, and Vanity Fair called her "a Burlesque Superheroine." At this time, she also developed powers that she never knew she had. Running away from paparazzi that were following her, she wished and tried to not be seen, and when she realized the moment the camera men completely passed her by while she was standing directly before them, she was completely invisible to them. She knew this was gifted from her father. After performing her diamond show in New York, she caught a certain someone's attention. His name was Charles Geller, a werewolf. She knew that lycanthropes and vampires existed, but never had the opportunity to meet one until Geller approached her at the end of a show. Shortly after, they became instant friends, and were constantly seen together for a few years while Geller lived in New York. They spent a wild week in Bourdeaux, and then parted ways with a laugh and a kiss when they arrived back in the states. Geller had to move from New York when they arrived back, and Dita continued her career and stardom as one of the most recognized burlesque performers in the world. Just when things had started to slow in her career, she received a call from her old friend Geller that she still kept in touch with every so often over the years. He was living in New Orleans and opened up a restaurant. He proposed a business opportunity; she could be his other business partner and run the entertainment of the restaurant. Happily accepting his proposal, she moved to New Orleans.
