The business had almost sprung up over night. At least that's how it seemed to most of the regulars of the downtown area. The bland front of an old four story business building had been altered for the first time in years with a new sign, reading "Body and Mind," in smaller letters under it also read "Empowering the Physical and Sharpening the Mental." Plastered right on the large window front was advertising for lower membership rates for twelve months for everyone who signed up the first week after opening. And once one made their way inside it was evident that the advertising out front was doing it's job. With the combination of low rates and plenty of space to work out in, business was booming. Treadmills whirred from the front of the cardio section, People peddled on bikes like they thought they were going to be getting somewhere, steps were climbed on the stair stepper machines, and from the back of the room the grunts of man and woman alike sounded from the machines and free weights sections of the first floor. One floor higher an almost full aerobics class was being conducted by April Tristine, a lean and cut human femme who had to have been in her late twenties. The second floor was an open floor plan like the first, save it's equipment was all about aerobics and gymnastics. Parallel bars, balance beams, a wide open exhibition area, etc. Everything you would need for your aerobics and gymnastics whims and fancies. The next floor up held the arguably most physical portion of the gym. Punching bag stations, speed bag stations, sparring rings, everything that would be used hone the combative abilities of members was housed on this floor. For the hard core, in the middle of the area was a caged off octagon with it's entrance gate padlocked shut, with a sign on it that read "Only to be used in the supervision of Body and Mind staff and trained medical assistance."
The next level up was blocked off, the doors the the stairwell locked shut. Back down on the main floor the flow of people off the streets coming in to sign up was finally slowing down. Raphael Morris, rather large, thickly cut ebony man assisted the final customer in on completing their membership paperwork and took their first months dues back in to the office behind the shake and smoothie bar that was attached to the main desk. Daniel raced back and forth, filing memberships in one cabinet in alphabetical order and securing dues in the safe. "Raph, I think I may just hire someone to take care of this shit for me too. Damn, it's been so hard to keep up I haven't had time to hit the weights yet. And dont worry about staying late tonight to help me count the dues, I will stay and take care of it myself." It was a curious sight to see, a guy so young managing a business. But here he was, handling things the best he could on his own. The smaller blonde haired wild walked out to the smoothie bar with the larger human, and smiled in greeting to the new members that waited on Raphael to take them on their initial tour. Once they had left out, Daniel sighed to himself, and poured himself his Blondie Peanut Butter Cup smoothie he invented for himself and took a sip. The vanilla protein and meal replacement shake mixed well with the peanut butter and slight hint of chocolate meal replacement. The ice and milk combination instead of water set it off rather nice, made it just a slight bit richer. Daniel took Raphaels station at the main counter and smiled to those who walked by outside, sip sip sipping on his smoothie/shake at the same time. Business was good, and the day could only get better. At least, he hoped. (post will be edited as soon as I can get to a computer, but please understand this was posted on an iPhone.
