Steps of the French Quarters Visitor Center (all are welcome to post)

Decatur Street, the French Quarters visitor centers stairs provided a perfect view of Jackson Square. Ren ate her hot dog that she got at the corner stand as she watched the people go in and out of Muriel's, a popular eating establishment. She had a fleeting thought of going inside until reality reached out and poked her. Anyway, the hot dog was delicious. She noted the artwork lined up against the fence of the park, bright colors and shapes peeked her interest. An experience she'd indulge herself in later. For now, she was on the clock.

Being it was 90 with the heat index, Ren had on a black beater and a gray and black pair of BDU's, along with black converse high tops. Her trusty B2 laying against the stairs beside her. Finishing off her dinner, she grabbed her water bottle and took a healthy gulp. Setting that beside her she reached into her pocket and pulled out a paper back with a bright yellow cover and red letters stating "Voodoo In New Orleans". The over head lights didn't provide enough for a typical person to read comfortably by, but Ren was not so typical.

The snake realized that last night, she thought absently. She'd have to watch her step. And her stunt last night with the bike, stupid! She didn't use any special talent that a human wouldn't possess, after all she'd seen kids doing the same thing on their bikes. That was a small relief to her.

Ren shook her head slightly, banishing the thoughts of last night and promptly went back to appearing to read her book as she watched the comings and goings of Jackson Square.

Shifting the car into first and then second, Owen Connors was cruising down the streets of New Orlean's interstate. It wasn't a very big city and there was everything you wanted in a matter of seconds. His right foot leaned forward to press down on the gas as the needle on the speedometer pointed to five five miles an hour. He looked in his rear view mirror as the dark blue Volvo headed down towards the French Quarter. The doctor was back on duty, but he had to take a co-worker to the visiting center cause he was brand new to the city and he had to be extremely consistent to the young male sitting in the passenger seat. It was that too many at the hospital in NOLA relied too much on him cause he got shit done, that was what the good doc did and one higher strength he carried with him even when he rolls over in his grave. The wheels moved in fast pace as the car passed some slower cars in front of him. As he stopped at a right light, his co-worker was just initated on the hospital staff team. He was young and the lad wasn't up to the big guns yet, no he wasn't.

He got a position as a desk clerk to answer all questions, direct visitors or patients to a ward they'll be staying in. The new doc fresh out of school side glanced at the dermatologist who also worked as a shrink part time as well when he wasn't giving skin treatment tips to clients. "Thanks for giving me the tour Dr. Connors. It's my first time sightseeing."His scent was fresh soap that held an ivory soapy scent and smelt the Head n Shoulders shampoo thoroughly worked in the scalp in his head, the roots, and saw the nice lines that told him he kept it clean regularly. He smelt good, that was always a good quality. He did not look at him, but spoke while keeping his hues on the road in front of him. "No problem. I am just doing what the boss suggests you know? He's initimidating I'll tell you that much."He turned the steering wheel, tires skidded into the parking lot in between some vehicles in an opened parking space. There was a smell he knew or it was familiar to him, his shields was up but just a little slid to keep him informed of whose what, power, or who he spoke to.

He and the other man sat in the car a few more minutes before he cut the engine and opened the door of his driver's side. A foot stepped down then the other followed in suit. He stood five ft ten at the usual height, most men compared to him reached over to six ft in length, but it was in the genes on his mother's side of the family. The car beeped as he pressed the lock button on his key's remote, his entourage followed closely behind him. He stepped up the steps of the Visitor Center, the scents was all taken in and he was showing his colleague around the first place here. Civian, Owen's accomplice, continued following his lead looking around liking it so far.

What a pretty shiny Volvo. Ren wondered if the humans there knew that one of them wasn't in fact human. Walked like one, talked like one, dressed better than most. But not human.

She leaned her elbows on the step behind her, stretching her legs out over the concrete steps below. It was a beautiful day all in all. No sense of danger drifted toward her so she continued to people watch. However the day was still early. And she knew most things requiring her skills would happen after dark. But it was good to get a view of the land, what's stationary, what moves, which streets led where.

She'd explore more later, but for now, she was letting her lunch digest and acting as relaxed as everyone else.

The scent drifted from that girl to his spotted feline, the fragrance from this woman beckoned him to get to know her ..a little. He looked at Civian thinking that his follower should browse more. It will help the man cover more ground that way. Patting his middle back lightly, talking in a light tone. "You should go and look around. I'm going to do the same. Welcome to the Big Easy."Civian looked at him, then nodded thinking that is exactly what he should do. The young man walked away, Owen told him they'll meet back here when he was about ready to leave to go on their next stop to show him around the city now that he had gotten more established, checked out half of the hot spots to historical sites.

May eventually stop at the cemetary during daylight hours. They often were opened to tourists and citizens who like to drop by on a regular basis. He purchased a brochure, guide, and a map here with a few postcards to mail to his family letting them know he was still alive and not overall a dead doorknob. Soon as the boy left him alone, the trail to the familiar smell brought him close to the girl he seen in the park the other day. He was a little distance from her, then that leopard clawed his way down the tree in hope's to study the new girl who the beast wasn't aware of yet. His beige feline was a curious thing even the most pleasant scent brought him closer cause he must seem to like it, so did Owen who liked the fairer sex.

He wasn't going out of his way to speak in his charmed tone like with past females he has met. Most his type did what any cat did when meeting strangers. Owen could hide better than most of them, probably so well, you would only get a small image of a human shell. That cat's claws were sharp inside that made him ferocious far from his human half. A delicate tone slipped from his voice to the familiar presence of the girl he's seen just never met one on one in a place he wasn't thinking someone such as she would be roaming around here. "Hi. I see you're browsing. New Orleans has many wonders."You will think he's making a new pick up line, but he was plain as day when he started a greeting seeing as they had not properly been introduced. His hair was dark brown, hazel eyes looked into her own, the skin was a brown tan and his voice held a soft, light tone that passed the young kit's lips that had such cunning that his cat knew all too well about them. When it comes to cat world, their always know for a little bit of surprises.

Ren's nose itched. It was fur. Its not that she was allergic, it was just an overwhelming sent that she'd come to recognize in the park with the not so human inhabitants she'd seen.

The voice that spoke belonged to the figure that partially blocked the sun that beat down on her and the cement. One hand raised to shield her eyes as she looked up. With the other, she set the book down so she wouldn't loose her page. "Browsing..." She grinned. "Yes, I guess you could say that."

She took in his attire, compared to her own. "But browsing isn't what you're doing here, is it Mister..." She let the last word dangle, awaiting him to fill in the name.

He smiled, arms crossed over his masculine chest. A dark green tattoo of a hydra was seen peeking a little from beneath his short-sleeve of his shirt. He has other artistic designs that were well hidden. Owen did not turn his head to her as he spoke, his attention on some of the tourists coming past them, heading towards their vehicles while others walked. There was an aura surrounding her that he felt, she didn't feel nor smell entirely human herself. Nostrils hinted at something entirely different that he has not seen nor met before. Listening, the sunlight shoned on his face and bare arms.

It was a really nice day, the best time to be going out. Why stay home when there was so much to do? "Hmm. You're right. I'm definitely not here to ..browse if that is what you call it."Coolly attitude, got to love it. Owen's calm demeanor was his best assets. A light wind jostled the front of his bangs, fluttering a bit. Looking down at her, he saw the book she was reading. It wasn't he was sticking his nose where it shouldn't be, but curious he could not fathom to miss that was a part of him. "I'm Owen."He said warmly, slightly looking at her and noticed a book she was reading before he interrupted.

Ren's muscles tensed, belieing the relaxed appearance of lounging on the steps.

She was still getting a sense of the beings here in New Orleans. The innocent looking face of Owen, reminded her of someone's younger brother , peered down at her. He didn't fool her howerver. He was a predator. As was she. Just with a different twist.

"I'm Ren." She said, returning the introduction. "Perhaps 'browsing' was the wrong word. How about 'prowling'?"

Prowling was used with an inflection that one could assume she meant 'looking for women, ie: trolling'; or as a lycan, it co uld mean something entirely different. It all depended on how he took it. He didn't know that she knew he wasn't human. She gave no indication that they were't just two humans chatting in the Quarter. Her own physical make up threw off everyone's radar. Being the freak she was. It always made her grin though.

"Are you prowling, Owen?" She grinned.

He saw a few seagulls flying in the pale blue sky above, their boisterous cries echoed in the mix of chatter from Nawlin tourists and citizens all standing around talking, another was a couple holding hands, this was a specious city during the day as well as the night except one must not be out when the freaks slid around the corner unless you're capable of taking care of yourself. Owen shuffled, taking into account of Ren's inquired of his loping around here. Prowling aye? Is that what she may have been assuming he was doing the minute he came here? Nice to know that one's actions was often misintrepreted even a distance. Is it that cause he's a creature with tooth and claws that guess made her think it. No he cannot fool her, didn't doubt that. A pause, not a sound draped across his lips. More calls from the aquatic birds rose to continue with their song of the sea beyond and the lives of these precious men and women who was having a graceful time to themselves not even paying any attention to the guy and girl chatting about prowling or whatever she was talking about.

A brow quirked as he finally gave her response. Smoothly that is, but nevertheless he was considerate. There was a scrutiny of her face, those eyes, then with a nice smile he was giving her the notion that maybe he may not have known completely, but did not entirely mean he could guess. Owen maybe naive at a mere glance, but he was also not the stupidest kid on the block. Some may have overlooked, but he feigned to notice. "Prowling? I am here on behalf of an associate who happens to be an entourage of mine. Giving him a tour. "Was he prowling before he met her? No. He was thinking of he and Civian's next destination from the Visitor Center. The guide he purchased earlier was good for someone new to an area, Civian can look in it to see what interest him the most. His hazels showed nothing but the truth, give or took. On the otherhand, if he was lurking you'll know about it. Today, it wasn't his Swat wannabe day so he was off work for the time being.

Owen did not dilly-dally for no reason. If he did do that, something peeked his interest. Mainly, a certain woman who reminded him of a police woman all dressed in blue with a pad and pen, clicking the button while asking these kinds of questions. He could not help but ask his own, similar to a certain game about questioning and the other has to ...answer to the best of their ability. "What of you? Don't tell me you're um..just sitting here. "He could never sit in the same place for much longer, that had nothing to do with his beast half, it was plainly how he was give or take.

"Ahh work, admirable." She nodded in approval.  She was perfectly honest with him when she answered his question.  "I'm just people watching mostly.  Getting a feel for the city being fairly new here myself.  So much to see and learn." She motioned towards her book.  "Very different here than pretty much any where else in the states I'd say.  Is there anywhere in particular you'd recommend for someone new in town to enjoy themselves?"

She'd been sitting there for roughly three hours, give or take.  And the passersby and street vendors were fascinating.

He could not help but make use of his helpfulness. The good Samaritan, that was him. Owen could not help her further than figure out any specific spots that he'd recommend for sure. This time he moved in, sitting down so that it did not feel too awkward with one sitting while the other stood. It was the feeling one gets with a father shadowing his son, his arms folded and he gave that intimidating glare after hearing the trouble he got into. Nice analogy, but he wanted to make Ren feel at home here since she is pretty much new and he's only been here at least two or three months thus far so he's gotten settled in quite well. This chat could go about nice and smooth any other day, but first impressions did matter a lot.

Trying wasn't needed. What Owen did was heal and talk to people about their problems, that was what it took to being in his position. The passersby was watched through his hazel orbs, feeling the air brush his face. "I think Tulane University is a high recommendation. I have not been there myself. They have all sorts of things that could qualify as learning experience and I hear there is a swimming pool there. "No. He's never went there. Not yet, he was going about doing other things with his time. Lectures to swimming was a nice attraction. Then he thought about the museum. "If you into that mumbo jumbo called voodoo, check out the museum or the voodoo shop. "He said amusingly when he thought about it. Never mess with the stuff, but some people ate it up and really believed that such magicks can protect you.

She listened intently as he ticked off some sights of interest.  And chuckled when he mentioned the voodoo shop and museum.  "Since its such a prominant part of the city, I figured I'd just check into it.  Though with all the accounts of voodoo this and voodoo that, can you really just discount it all? "  She grinned again, "I mean, there are plenty of things, personal accounts, of the supernatural everywhere.  One is crazy, two is presuggestion, but hundreds upon thousands?  Can they all be crackpots?  Certianly there has to be a handful who are truly honest."

She loved discussions.

Discussions, one of the things he was good at was carrying on a fun filled conversation with someone. Didn't matter who it was, just as long they can keep up and stay clearly on topic. Course there is the change of subjects, some people are known to speak on things that wasn't relevant to the main description. Small talk is cheap, but it does plenty of good at the end of the day. What was missing here is a nice bar and people chatting in the background. Summer was going to draw to a close and children will be returning to the place of learning called school.

Seasons do change, the full moon itself was also coming closer which is why his mood swings do happen to slant like a scale in a supermarket for weighing vegetables and other items. Glad to know Casanova, the name of his beige kitty beneath the surface wasn't giving him hell as he is known to do every chance he gets. Owen has learned a thing or two when it comes to being a human living with someone sharing a part of you. He could use a beer, whiskey, brandy, or cognac. Drink it fast, get a second cup and make this talk something to be proud of. His face was flawless and held elegance, he was like some boy across the street that everyone knew and talked about, but just did not know lot about him until someone eventually came along to maybe get to know this man whose nothing if, what most women think when guys like him surfaced.

Perhaps, men were all the same as in psychology, but that wasn't entirely true through argument. All boys think of sex, pretty girls in plaid skirts and cheerleading outfits, some go to strip clubs to check out the latest boob jobs but Owen on the other hand just like a little..controversy as his definition implied. No one knew the boy next door type, that was what you'll describe him to a T. As he listened, slightly turning his head to look at the side of her face when she made a statement about accounting. The dark stuff? He's very much passed a madam or two on his entrance to this very city. Their into voodoo and they perform, but doubt their the actual vodoun priest and priestess rumored to be hiding since this is New Orleans, why not feature them as the main subject? "I can't write off if I believe it. I mean, I actually thought if I got some trinkets, get a description of what it does? It could do me some good. "Not that he said nor employed he didn't believe in magic that could make one cringe when others hear ..voodoo. Some run the other way, others stay put and become curious. Owen just has common sense is all.

"Some would say that its the belief itself that brings the mojo, be it bad or good.  That it will only hold power over someone because they believe it will." She picked up her book, marked the page and stuffed it into one of her side pockets on her pants.  "Others will swear up, down, and sideways that its the belief of the person that practices which gives it it's juice." She shrugged with a smile.  "I'll have to see where that path leads me, as I'm on the fence about it."

She shifted, bringing her legs closer to her and not all stretched out on the steps.  She folded her arms over her knees and leaned her head on them.

(ack block...tag you're it)

He already could hint the woman wasn't human, but human. It was a mixture of what doesn't belong versus which does. Another set of people that was a group of three came down the steps the two was sitting. A mother, her boyfriend, and her five year old little girl who was hanging out today. Lucky them, happy with nothing else that mattered. Everyone has a view on what they see, his stuck to what he believes. It was one of the things he liked about people was each has a side of themselves that helped to know a little something about them. The way Ren spoke of the unknown that involved magic, he smiled to hint he pretty much was already liking her company. Owen enjoyed talking with someone who at least listen before they had an idea what the ideal of the conversation was. "Yes. That is most undoubtly true. I for one see it like this. You don't mess with it. I like to keep it as I'm not going around making some use of what I will never understand. "Did he like magic? Only if it was a magician like from his childhood days that came with a top hat, a wand, and you saw some guy make doves flutter out of his hat with the audience seeing it with their own eyes.

That was an illusion. He wasn't at all a Catholic, he just didn't care for any of that stuff. Nothing to do about believing in what is out there, look at him still clinging to his control and hoping to one day rise up to learn much about being a shifter seeing as he's been around humanity for much longer even after he became a lycanthrope. Hiding what he was cause of what he did for a living wasn't the best way of going about making a living when you live in both worlds. Nice to know the people he worked with hasn't figured out the actual truth of the very thing he is past what his human shell gave off. "I have yet to see where mine is too. My path. All of us have them. Strong or weak."A light smile shifted on the contours of his mouth, a streak of innocence showered about him even as he was thinking about where he is in this community. Both the human and supernatural, he is in both worlds. One of these days he'll establish himself, make use of performing actions that will bring out his true self. No one knows better than he does.

"I guess the moral of our story, is to not piss off anyone who has dabbled, believed in, or openly practices the art." She chuckled.

She raised her head slightly, looking at him directly in the eyes, windows of the soul and all that.  "If you choose a weaker path, you'll be lead toward the unknown, not willingly or with any control.  If you choose the stronger path, you decide which direction it goes, how your destiny will unfold, control is yours.  Mostly." A lopsided grin formed on her lips. "There's always Murphy's Law, and what I like to call the 'what if factor'.  But at least you'd be able to decide how to handle it."

She watched the little family too for a moment, before checking her cell.  "I'm afraid I've got to go.  It was a pleasure meeting you. I'm sure we'll run into each other again."
