Quite the Pair (LYCAN HOSPITAL, NEW YORK)

"We're quite the pair..." Jenna said softly. She was sitting in a chair at the side of Venus' bed in the lycan hospital. The hand of the unconscious woman was held tenderly by Jenna, her small thumb brushing over the surface back and forth.

After leaving Geller's parents home, their first stop was to check on Venus. After both she and Geller visited with Venus, Geller left to talk to the physicians with Vincent. Jenna had taken the opportunity to sit with the woman that was once her dear friend; to watch her breathe, feel the warmth of her hand, to satisfy herself that Venus was indeed alive and well. Jenna's blonde hair lay down her back like a golden curtain of silk, the interest of Maria was well founded for it was the hair of a born tigress in human form. Shining, soft, richly hued in shades of blonde, and putting a person in the mind of silk as its woven into a single piece of fabric.

Venus was a beautiful woman. Despite the changes in her appearance since Jenna last saw her, Venus still held the beautiful bone structure she remembered. Delicate brow, pert nose, full mouth, that, even in this condition, she was attractive. She knew Venus likely could not hear her, and perhaps that's why she spoke at all. Sometimes a heart needs to express itself, even if nobody is around to hear the words.

"When you love somebody deeply, when you really love them, enough to let them inside that part of you that you tried to protect, you start feeling everything..." Jenna lifted Venus' hand and put it to her own cheek, stroking back and forth against the soft velvet skin of the tigress. Lowering it, she returned to the simple thumb stroke, her eyes remaining fixed on the visage of her old friend. "I love him, Venus, I let him into that part of me, and now I feel everything. I can't separate myself from things any longer as I used to. As I did when it was easy to look at another person distantly and feel absolutely nothing. Now, it's difficult to look at anything, or anyone, with indifference." Jenna had perfected Ice Queen at one point. Looking back, she was pretty sure that ended when Charles Geller first made her smile within five minutes of meeting him.

"We've had so much between us, you and me, good and bad. Sometimes a person gets to the point where having another in their life is more painful than joyful. I know it might possibly be that way with us, Venus. But it wasn't always that way." She smiled, a soft reminiscent smile, allowing herself to venture into a time in her life when she was confused about her place in the world, but Venus had made her smile, made her laugh. "I still remember us before everything. The way we used to be. And I know you think this is just another repeat of the same ole story and maybe, at first, so did I ." Her voice was barely audible in the quiet room where only the sound of the heart monitor beeped steadily. Venus' respirations were steady, even, unlabored. Her heart was thudding along as it should, her skin warm and of a good color. It was only that drug that was pushed into Venus' veins that kept her from coming back to them.

"But it's not. Not anymore, Venus." She took in a breath and released it in a slow, easy exhale. Her thoughts were walking down an honest path. Though her words may not always be forthcoming, Jenna was becoming in tune with what it was to feel, to love, to hate, and to know the difference.

"You deserve a life that is more than this. Filled with love and happiness, laughter and moments of pure poignant emotion, the kind that moves you until you can't breathe well without that other person...." Jenna stood then, placed Venus' hand tenderly, carefully back into place. She leaned forward, the full mouth pressed at the smooth forehead of the woman lying in the bed, her eyes closed as the kiss was placed. Then she whispered softly against the freshly kissed skin, "We will take care of you, in whatever way that entails." Slender fingers gently brushed back the blonde hair of Venus, searching her face for any sign of a response. "Get better, Venus. Your family misses you....and so do I."
