"Y'know, I never quite understood the reason why we where always told to stay in the car. I mean, I know I'd find two people just sitting in a car for hours on end being suspicious wouldnt you?" wih his rant offered he picked up his fork and knife, pointed the knife at the building across the street. " I can see the building here just as well from inside the car... only difference is out here, I have a delicious steak." and he too his knife to the wonderously cooked beef. cutting through it as though it where butter. a bite was speared with the fork and popped into his mouth. he watched the building they where tasked with watching for a moment before he shook his head. eyes back to the woman infront of him.
"I fucking hate stakeouts... worst part about being a detective, bar none." another bit of steak was cut off and eaten before he took a drink from his ice water, which was very much, not a beer as Detective Kent had pointed out several times while they waited for their food. It was water, because all they had otherwise was soda, which was something Clark really didnt drink. you didnt stay looking as good as he did by sucking down all that sugar.
He fell quiet again. taking another bite of the steak, intently watching the storefront they where supposed to be watching It was a bookstore, seemed fine enough, the owner paid his taxes, didnt have an arrest record, and even frequented the local park to exercise. Of course he also matched the discription of a man who was responsible for the huge power outage a month prior, as well as a man discribed as a grave robbery, which means when a good samaritan said that his neighbor was peddling the dangerous narcotic V it warrented looking into. little did they know that James himself was the good sameritan that called in the tip."What do we know about the hot blonde?" he asked suddenly, there was a girl that worked at the bookstore. Clark liked hot blondes, they where easy to talk to.
Natalie watched in abject wonderment as Clark talked and ate his steak, while justifying the fact that their stake out, was now dinner in a restaurant. She followed the lift of his knife to the building of the man they were currently watching.
Natalie sliced her own steak, medium rare, with a slathering of A-1 and took a bite. Chewing she considered Clark's words.
"It is the worst part, it's boring, dead boring, eating steak helps, but don't count on a restaurant being this handy every time. I figure we're going to end up playing rock, paper, scissors for hours on end before our partnership is finished..." She grinned, slid another bite of steak in her mouth, and lifted her glass of water
"This...is not beer. Not even close, an ingredient in beer, but it's not beer." She took a long drink, then laughed sitting it down. She rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I'm leaving the study of hot blondes to you, Clark. You seem drawn to them for some reason and oddly enough, they seem drawn to you. So why don't you tell me what you know about her? I know the gentleman we are watching is crazy good lookin', fit as a fiddle, and just has that lonely look on his face..."
He gave her a look and then looked down at her steak, covered in a-1 and then he shook his head taking another bite of his steak. you could tell a lot about a person by what they put on their steak. and by that he gathered she wasn't the biggest fan of steak, which is why it was slathered in steak sauce. and then he eyed her up." Y'know, if you keep reading my mind, and then informing me that you have... either I'm going to start picturing you naked again. or we're going to have to abandon the honor system. and we couldn't play rock paper scissors.. you'd have an unfair advantage. " he said that with a smile before taking another drink from his water. Natalie would warm to his charms one day. and one day he'd get her into the sack. on that day be able to stop imagining her naked and just be able to picture it in his mind. but as per their agreement he'd taken to not doing that. at least while she was around.
"Thank you Nat, you know how I love to study..." he leaned back in his seat then, smiling his big charming smile."It's not just blondes Nat, all ladies are drawn to me... even you are, you just can't yet admit it to yourself." glancing from her back the the building. "Well, she likes to keep it tight, and uh, she's somewhere between sixteen and nineteen. and she probably is a virgin..." he paused and smiled then with a huff of laughter."... probably why he looks lonely." the detective shook his head then and took another bite of his sauce free steak.
"I don't even want to know how you found that out...as for the being drawn to you, Clark, you would make a terrible father, you have tastes that are way too high falutin' for me, and I like to eat McDonald's chicken nuggets and watch That 70's Show reruns."
A shake of her head before finishing off her steak, draining the water glass and waiting for the cheque so they could go set up a proper stake out. As the money was doled out evenly from each, Natalie glanced out the window.
"Was that a movement?" It seemed to be a movement, a shadow of some sort scurrying around the building of one, James Cooper.
"I've got a seventh sense about that sort of thing." he took another bite of his steak and gave her another sizing up look as he chewed, and when he swallowed he said "You lost yours when you where... fifteen." he said that with a proud smile before taking a triumphant sip from his beverage. It didnt matter if he was right or not, all that mattered was that he had guessed.
"Also. I never said anything about being a father nat, I'm more of the awesome uncle type... all I thought was that one day, sometime some where... I'd get you into the sack. and you'd enjoy the hell out of it." a firm nod given then before he too finished up his steak, standing from his seat.
"Yeah it looks like it, come on, let's get a closer look." starting towards the store with a bit of haste, glancing over at her while they walked."I love that 70's show, but do you know how absolutely terrible Mcdonald's chicken mcnuggets are for you? they dont rot Nat... ever, food's supposed to do that at some point."
"You've been touching something of mine!" The protest came a bit late, they were already halfway across the street. "Stop touching me.." It sounded for the world like a child complaining about a sibling.
"Food should rot, but hey, those nuggets are the best thing ever invented. Or maybe it's the hot mustard sauce that's the real tasty part..." A-1, Hot Mustard Sauce. See a trend?
"One day..." she said quietly as they neared the building, her stance that of a seasoned officer. "Sometime...." she lowered her voice another few degrees..."somewhere, you get me in the sack and I guarantee I will enjoy it..."
Bet he wasn't expecting that, but she timed it right, so that they were right up to the building, nearest where the shadow was seen.
Clark smiled his ncie charming smile."Seventh sense nat." was all he added and tapped at his temple before a hand went to the gun holster on his hip. moving carefully up to the window he got serious then. Clark could joke, and flirt with the best of them but he was a cop, and god damnit, he was a very good one.
Blue eyes carefully scanned the interior of the store through the front window all looked normal except for the the ruggedly handome, fit as a fiddle suspected head of their whole ring of V dealership. who was presently picking up what looked to be a fallen stack of books. Clark let out a soft bit of laughter then."Dude's clumsy looks like... dangerous." said in a sarcastic tone with a big beaming smile.
The Detective took a step back and leaned against the wall of the store next to the book shop. his hand falling from the grip of his pistol"You should really start trying to eat something withour slathering it is powerful sauces... That's what we'll do!" completely changing gears he pushed up from his leaning point and started back to the restaurant to go and pay their bill, assuming that she was going to follow. " Next steak out, you'rr going to wear your slutiest little black dress, and I'm going to take you to a nice restaurant where you wont be able to cover the food in sauce." He was a detective afterall, deductive reasoning didnt mean you had to be able to read minds.
"Yes, because no sense in going out to eat if my dress isn't a slutty black one, eh Clark?" She glanced over at him, then relaxed.
"Whatever it was, is gone." She pulled out her cell phone and hit the light to see the time. "It's time to call it a night, so whatever this guy was doing, he gets a get out of jail free card tonight..."
She shoved her phone back in her jacket pocket. "Or..we could go just knock on the door and ask him. There's a point when stake outs feel stupid. And this one is starting to. Or maybe that's the steak in my belly..." she put a hand to her stomach.
Clark smiled and gave a nod. watching the inside of the building for a moment, processing a thought."of course not. how else will everyone know you're a MILF?" he grinned his charming grin and pushed up from where he was leaning. head bobbing in another nod.
"yeah, I agree.... someone should go in there and talk to the guy." and he gave the door a knock, a loud one before he stepped back and out of the way. "you're better equipped for the fit as a fiddle suspect. I'll go ahead and hang out here and uh, keep an eye out for the hot blonde." a triumphant smile offered to his partner as he took to getting comfortable in his hanging out by producing a cigarette from inside of his suit jacket.
"You're a pain in the ass, Clark.." but she said it with affection. Well...mostly. She did grin though, knowing his teasing was a way of keeping the partnership strong, the tension less, and the stress of their job bearable.
She stepped up quickly when he pounded on the door, waiting for the man to answer the door as she pondered Clark's quick flip from wanting to bed her to waiting for the hot blonde. She wished she could be more like that. Maybe she wouldn't be so grumpy.
"Damn, could've given me a minute..." Why? Because she was a control freak, that's why. She was going to just have to get used to Clark's easy flow. Maybe chill out a little. That'd be nice for them both.
Checking her sidearm, tugging her jacket into place, Nat tapped out a rhythm of the last song she heard while she patiently waited.
The wires above the building shuddered when the large raven suddenly vanished to take flight.
Minutes later, Pryia came strolling toward the bookstore. She'd been watching the pair, they were almost comical in their snooping around, but a corax had eyes that saw much, everything if they could. A pink hoodie, the pockets laden with all manner of things, stretched the garment until it hung sloppily around her hips. Jeans, that had seen better days, seemed to be formed to her body after so much wear. They just stayed in the shape of Pryia. The dark chestnut hair was pulled up in a ponytail, and she blew a pink bubble, letting it pop loudly just before she got to where Clark and Natalie stood.
"So, is this a real live stake out? Because if it is, I gotta tell ya, you two are noisy. Heard you in my apartment. You know James? Good guy, had a little accident the other day, found him sitting looking dazed. I think he touched a live wire. you know that can hurt, live wires, sends a shock right through the body, makes the heart go flippity flop and puts sparks in your eyes.." She grinned, then paused, skewing up her mouth to blow another bubble. So anyway, he's in there, I saw him go in. But he's not done nothing wrong, he's a good guy." She groused around in one pocket of her hoodie and produced a card, a little bent, slightly smudged, but it had her name and business on it.
"If ya need computers, or files looked at, I'm the one to call. Yea I know you probably have specialists that do that, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts I can do it faster, better and cheaper than them..." She glanced up at the building, over at the car the two detectives had occupied earlier, then the restaurant they had both visited while supposedly doing their job.
"You shouldn't eat there, health department report said they found worms in their meat, and mice poop in the kitchen..." She popped another bubble and big brown eyes looked from Natalie to Clark. Hey, she was just...sharing information. Yea, that's it.

"Not yet Nat... but if you're into that sort of thing. I'm game."Clark offered her a grin and gave her nice ass a swat before she pounded on the door to the book shop. taking a step forward and greeting the young lady that approched them with a great big smile.
"Well hello." he said with a smile. that changed to shocked surpsrise as she continued to speak very quickly. though that became an ammused little grin by the time she handed him her business card. he looked down at it and then back up at her. y'could just wanted to put her in your pocket didnt you?"I can imagine grabbing a live wire does that." he smiled again and motioned her away a few steps.
"I uncerstand that he's a good guy. but my partner will still have to question him. if you don't mind, would you be willing to answer a few questions?" he reached into the inside pocket of his suit, pulling out a pad of paper and a pen. he flipped open past a couple of pages.
"first question, could you state your age and date of birth please?" offering the young lady a smile while he awaited her answer.

" Y'don't have to keep pounding on the bloody door, It's a store. its open to everyone..." he said with almost a growl, opening the door without looking to see who was on the other side. and when he saw a small group forming he looked surprised and maybe a little ashamed."Did the door lock from the outside again? It's been known to do that sometime." He was English. as shown by his accent and he was dressed in a button down blue shirt and black jeans. Clear blue eyes jumped from person to person.
There where so many people, in his mind, he was calculating any potential dangers that would arise. it wasn't often he had a group trying to get into his store. the math was complex as he played it out in his head, never failing his good shop keep smile. the girl in the pink sweater. did he recognize her? potentially... though he couldn't place it. Wizards could channel the energies of the world. but electricity could do some odd shit to your memory regardless.
He made a confused face when the gentleman escorted the young lady away, and carried blue eyes to the woman before him, brows up in curiosity, his math never stopped presently he was calculating possible reasons she could be here."Is there something I might be able to help you with Miss?"
Pryia was led away easily, anything shiny and all that.
"Well..." she took a breath and then it came. Even the bubble blowing was put on pause for this one. She gave her date of birth, putting her at 19. Though she stated she was nineteen as well.
"So not legal to drink, 'cept in those clubs that give it to the minors and nobody ever says anything. You ever been to those clubs? We were at one the other night. V was flowing like water, people freaking out. Then we left, because it was too wild, and I got on the computer and started looking up some stuff. V started flowing in the city about six weeks ago. Stuff is not from around here. There's a way to stop it, at least the full free flowing way it is now. But I couldn't figure out a few details is all. Maybe you all have the details...about him" She jerked her head to the bookstore as Natalie was pounding on it.
"He's allright, didn't do nothing, just needed a lil help getting home. He's a nice man, you shouldn't be wasting your time bothering nice people.." Pryia grinned, remembered her bubble gum, then blew the biggest bubble yet. Her eyes even crossed to look at it, before inhaling and sucking it all back in her mouth.
Natalie blinked, the swat to her ass lifting her up off the steps slightly. It was such a shock, she turned to give Clark what for, but she heard the door open and turned.
He was speaking in that gorgeous British accent, with the bluest eyes she'd ever seen. He looked like James Bond. (heh) Natalie was not the smitten kitten type, and her blood WAS pumping with the fury Clark's swat caused, feigned though it was. However....this man in front of her took her aback.
You see a store like this, figure it's some ole fuddy duddy, but instead. ......
She cleared her throat, looked down at her phone to cover up the fact that she forgot why they were here, but then she remembered! Lifting her head and shaking back the spiraled dark curls, she smiled. Yes, Natalie could smile.
"Good evening, so sorry to disturb, but we'd like to ask you a few questions if you have the time? Nothing serious, but it's in regards to a little incident downtown...." There. Back to business, pretty as you please.
Clark Grinned and cast a glance up at natalie and her flustered reaction, ver pointedly thinking something about how she should break her off a little something something. but his grin was cut short as his interviewee started talking, and she was talking very quickly.
"Hm? oh its always possible I have, of course where i to spy a minor getting served rest assured that I wouldnt keep my lips zipped about it." he gave another grin, writing down a few things on his pad, trying to catch up as she got even further ahead.
"wait wait... you where at a club where there was Vampire's blood flowing?" he jotted that down." What was the name of this club? and you said We, where you there with another person? if so, could you provide me with their name? as well as how you two are related." another expertly worded cop question with a fishing aspect that only he was privvy to.
He smiled again, looking back at Natalie, questioning the shopkeep."I understand that, Hell he looks like a nice guy to me too. But we've still got to ask our questions." couldnt very well tell her in regards to what. As for her comment about stopping the influx of Vampire's Blood, Clark would come back to it later. getting more information about this club was a priority.

James offered her a smile, nad gave a nod. she was a little flustered for a moment, more numbers floated around his head, math calculating even as he stepped back. and motioned her on inside.
"Miss, I operate a book store in America, I've got nothing but time to answer questions. Please come in." he laughed a bit at his own joke and started to one of thirteen randomly placed overstuffed reading chairs around the store. Along with those where thirteen pillars. floor to the second store ceiling carved with pictographs of many epic tales from many counties mythologies.
When she mentioned the incident downtown he looked suprised for a moment."I was absolutely going to pay that ticket... I just, hadnt gotten to it yet." a pause for another second. "I didnt see the sign there what said it was handicapped parking only."
Apparently, he thought a parking ticket was far worse then his calling in about his neighbors vampire blood. or y'know causing a loss of power on a couple of city blocks.
