Living life and a text message from an old friend.

Despite the fall season chill outside in the hustling commuting of cars and congested side walks of New York. There was a small tavern located in the middle of Manhattanskyscrapers not to far from central park.  A bar, which had been established not to long ago, with a welcoming atmosphere to have good merriment conversations and avoid places that played loud thumping music? The scene was meant for working class people to get off work and enjoy that de-stress time. It offered large HD screen TV’s often playing the news and sports pending on the day. A room to the right once you walked through the door that had relaxation/competitive games. (Such as pool tables, darts, jukebox, pin balls machines to name a few). Further into the tavern you’d find it was suited with a kitchen that brought to customers a wholesome Italian menu based off the owner’s heritage. Offering that quaint fine dining foods for those who had a single’s life-style and didn’t want to go to the trouble to make a large meal?

Décor for the bar brought together a whole other element in customer satisfaction. The walls were painted with a fine burgundy hue and mahogany crown modeling to match the furniture and hardwood floors.  Along the walls decorated with those plastic grape vines to specifically create a vineyard exotic atmosphere. There were paintings of different wine bottles depicted by each artist creative interpretations to what wine is to them. Light fixtures emanated a dimmer effect around the room giving people opportunity to feel secluded and private during their fine dining and drinking escapades.

This place was called Amorti’s Tavern, owned by an Italian beauty named Venus Amorti. Though not born in Manhattan it was more upstanding from her birth place the Bronx’s. There were two piqued times for this place and that was lunch time and dinner. More hectic days was the weekend because everyone needed a social outlet. This was the ‘in crowd’ place to be some might suggest through word of mouth?

Today was Wednesday which for many working folks that is the acclaimed term called –hump day.  Day considered surviving the first day of their week and getting over that hump before the weekend. Hour was 2pm and lunch crowd had finally died down. Waitresses and bus boys were doing their best to straighten up the tables, by removing used dishes, clean ashtray’s, reclaim menu’s, and you get the gist.  Chief in the kitchen could be distinctly heard behind the closed door trying to cope with the lack of concern from the help’s he hired to run the kitchen smoothly. His Italian accent when spouting his words to fast left eavesdropper’s reason to chuckle because it was too comical? At this time their remained only a small conversation ambience in the tavern, besides the crew cleaning up the place and TV’s, came from three customers and Venus all congregating at the bar.

Venus remained static while leaning against the shelving unit behind her. It was filled with a variety of alcoholic bottle assortments, and a large mirror behind them to bring out dominate light effects from the booze colors and bottles, as if it was a stain glass window.  That curvaceous stature dressed in a one shoulder-baring shirt. On the other arm draped a very loose billowing about sleeve that went down to the wrist and it also had a sequenced. Blue jeans were a comfortable part of her ensemble and knee high heeled black boots that had her jeans tucked within them.  Her gorgeous bomb shell blonde hair had been eloquently curled for a bodacious effect to be bouncy, playful along those cheek bones, an optimized a want to grip onto them for a more professed claim or feel pending on the lover?  Her make up was truly feminine by the care taken to apply it on her features.  Around that beautiful neckline, were you could see the inward bound breaths, had been encased with an accessory onyx collar necklace.  That collar necklaces only caused a constrained choke when she let off a whimsical laughter at certain jokes.  Across her rib cage, hefting those plump breast, laid her right forearm resting against it. Left hand pointer finger and middle finger was preoccupied holding that cancer stick. Filter end stained with that deep red lipstick about those scrumptiously bold lips.

“…so then I said woman you don’t need to worry about paying the IRS.  I’m far worse when I come taxing for the sex you owe me.  HAR. HAR. HAR”  Sal an middle age man said talking about one of his co-worker woman he was attracted to. However, his approach to getting her in bed was rather out there. He flung his upper torso forward causing his chest to collide into the bars ledge while he chuckled so hard to his own words. The others who were locals, returning customers that is, shared a boisterous laugh to finding it quit satisfactory to that moronic male ego. Venus literally rolled her eyes and relinquished the smoke she’d had stored in her lungs from a previous inhale.

“..she wouldn’t allow you to deposit shit into her Sal…”  Venus laughed at his expense. Mocking him over an absurd notion he got laid from that one-liner.

“Fuck you Venus! “ He said sarcastically as he took a swig of his beer.

“No thanks Sal I don’t do request.” As she denied him with pleasure while moving away from the shelving unit she’d been leaning against. Everyone was having a good time laughing and to keep up the good spirits she began to refill on their drinks.

“So Venus –what are you doing for Thanksgiving?” One of the men asked.

Venus finished opening up a bottle of Budweiser in front of the man when he asked the question. Thanksgiving meant family time and it had been quit sometime either she or her surrogate pack family contacted one another. She might have answered but there was a vibration in her back pocket. Putting the cigarette in her mouth and turning about face to find privacy to answer her cell phone. She wasn’t sure if it was a text message or an actual incoming call.  Pulling it out of the cell phone she stood there shocked.

“I’ll be….” She uttered trying not to drop her cigarette while saying a rather gleeful remark to herself.

Text message was from Silent. A dear friend to her that she’d not heard from what seemed like eons. It was an invitation to hook up in Salem.  Salem? A place in the United States she had never in her life visited. Quickly Venus text Silent back letting her friend no she would make a trip out there to mingle. Be nice to take a small vacation out of New York and see another part of the states that had some really intricate history behind it.  Also, she reminded herself to call the family and check in on them. See how everyone’s handling themselves.
