Alessandro Bellarmine School of Ballet opened its doors in August 2011 at 800 Race Street, in the Lower Garden District. Our school currently is a 6,500 square foot facility that features three spacious studios with professionally built floors, a paved, lit parking area, changing rooms/showers and a waiting/reception area all on the ground level.
During the regular school year, September through May, our school provides ballet classes offering professional instruction following the Balanchine method of Dance syllabus. The emphasis is on proper technique and performance style in accordance with the body's stage of development.
The method caters to any student -- whether serious about dance as a career option or not. Subjects included in each class level are ballet, character and free-movement. For the adult student, there is a choice of classes ranging from easy to challenging on a sliding fee scale. Summer courses are offered for children and adults. Classes run from afternoon to evening, and are from $50-$75 a month for adults. Children between the ages of 11-17 are free, courtesy of UNICEF.
Uniforms are worn in the Children's division. Each class wears its own color of leotard. Proper leg and footwear is required at all times. The school supplies all costuming for the annual recital held in the late spring. There is no additional fee to be included in this performance.
