The call had been made, and that was that. Llidya showed up at Ash and Alex's place with a duffel bag and her '67 Impala, the only vehicle left to her besides her bike. It was still at the bar, she was sure, or at least hoped, and that was her next stop to pick it up. The Hummer went along with the rest of her classics, as well as all the electronic equipment. Now all she had was the bare essentials. She pulled up to the left of the house, leaving plenty of room for her to get out if need be. The engine shut off with the turn of the key and she reached across to grab her bag. The door groaned in protest as she opened it to step out, and she looked across the roof of the vehicle, glancing at the house through shaded eyes. She stepped back and slammed the door, making her way around the rear of the car.
A glance was given to her watch. The warehouse would be completely empty of her personal things by now, and soon filled with goods for the business.
"Well, what does it look like?" Llidya looked down to the phone in her hand, and smiled. Dina's face looked back at her in the small screen, a marvel possible only with today's technology.
"Good." Llidya smiled, as did Dina.
"Good. You look nervous."
"Your mom looks nervous," Llidya said. The reply was a low mutter, like a sulk. But of course it was all in teasing.
"I know, that's what I said." Dina grinned. "I'm really glad you found him again. My letters were being returned to me undeliverable and I wasn't sure what had happened."
Llidya leaned against the back of the car, holding up the phone to look at her daughter, now a fully grown woman in-charge of the family business. She'd done the smart thing and stuck around Aryca, learned about responsibility, something Llidya knew she could never properly teach her.
"A lot, Dina. How's the business?"
Dina gave her look, annoyed that she was changing the subject, but answered her question anyway. As she rattled off numbers and business dealings, Llidya just watched her, content to see her daughter, her beautiful, successful, confident daughter that was a woman now, taking care of herself and others. Llidya was glad she decided to drop the criminal justice degree to do the proper thing.
"Well that's good, I'm glad," she said, and a smile curved her lips. Dina looked off screen for a moment, then back to Llidya.
"Sorry, but I have go tend to a few business matters. Mr. Mayamoto is coming this evening."
"All right go on and continue your world dominance plot. I'll talk to you later."
"Okay. I'll talk to you later."
"See ya." Llidya ended the call and holstered the dying phone. They'd been talking for hours, part of that had been while the phone was plugged into the car charger. She needed to plug it in again. The joy, relief, tension, nerves and several dozen other sensations she had about the phone call rolled away from her, happy with the outcome of the day so far. Llidya pushed off the car and picked up her duffel bag, moving to the front door of the house.
