stifling.

heat.

there wasn't an icy beverage big enough to snuff out the collision that came just above her flesh, when the heat of the new summer crashed into the cold that emanated from her body.  her least favorite time of the year, and it was just beginning.  winter was so achingly far away, and when it came it was never severe enough for her tastes and she had to make do with a private winter of her own.  but she was the one who had chosen here, wasn't she, the ornery unseelie had cherry picked this town and its sweltering climate to nest in far from the mounds that were more hospitable to one like her.

she had her reasons for her choice.  she did.

just like she currently had her reasons for not running to the garden apartment complex of vagrants and misfits that she'd selected as her den.  were something unsavory to come the way of her stark and nearly barren one bedroom apartment on the second floor to look for trouble, they would find plenty of trouble to choose from besides her.  which is just what kiesah was aiming for.  an opportunity to stand back and enjoy the entertainment that came with all the rabble throwing themselves ignorantly at what came their way.  as they perhaps tired the trouble out.  needled it until it grew weak, possibly bleeding, hopefully regretful.  it was in moments such as those that the seized the opportunity to scoop up a new toy.

how she loved her toys.  they were each so unique, in their low yet special little ways.  and this area was filled with them, like an orchard laden with sickeningly ripe fruit.

maybe that's why she was walking now.  humans did their browsing by looking in shop windows and meandering through stores, but kiesah did so by walking the streets.  preferably after one of her shifts, such as tonight's which had not released her from the depths of the mortuary until just after 3am.  the hour when most mortals who walked the street had a stumble to their step, a slur to their words, and a guard that was far lower than it would be in the daylight.  when the streets were filled with such, she was a stark contrast - not just because of her faintly luminescent alabaster skin and stark white blonde hair, but also because of her garb.  the scrubs that she wore were a match to the robin's egg of her eye coloring, and over that her white lab coat was pristine for just coming off of a shift of preparing bodies on the slab.

at this time of night, who would harass someone that obviously worked in the medical profession in some way, even if they did look like her?  sucking down a tall, heavily sugared iced coffee as her piercing blue eyes swept shrewdly this way and that to take in what was going on in the vicinity, kiesah surely wouldn't harass anyone either...

maybe.  she did love her toys...especially the newfound ones.  they were the best, most exciting kind of game.

Clark Kent. who's parents where absolute comedians always had one thing going for him, in addition to having  been named after a super hero. That one thing was his unflappable prince charming good looks.  could not be flapped, of course a healthy dose of charm and a razor sharp wit where all whipped cream on an already delicious sundae.

While he wasn't stumbling along on his evening's bar crawl. he was walking with the sort ofloose swagger that a few drinks granted a man.  he was dressed in an expensive suit,  in an athletic cut that showed off his frame pretty well for a suit.  it was hard to tell in the dark, but it was a coal color, his shirt underneath blue, with a button open at the neck.

on a night as hot and balmy as this one,  catching a nice chill breeze after passing an attractive woman, was something that warrented a decent rubber neck. and the view that rubber neck brought deserved a more focused third take. and that third take deserved a very charming follow up.

a few long steps and he was walking beside whom he decided was a cute nurse. hands in his pockets, as he wasnt wearing his gloves. a casual glance over and then he said. "I respect a woman who appriciated a good iced latte this late at night..." his charming smile graced his features then."... especially a night as humid as this one has shaped up to be." she worked int he medical field and drinking coffee this late. deductive reasoning kicked in then and Eee Gads Holmes.  he had put it together." fueling up for a long night?" asked with all the charm and friendliness befitting a man of his station.

behind closed lips and an inscrutable expression, there was silent and cruelly bemused laughter as she passed the Man Who Was Cock of the Walk.  other than that she did nothing but walk by him, though she could feel his double-take considerations behind her.  she felt them as movements and interruptions within the current of the air - though it was not the season for her blustery winter wind to be at full potency, her connections to the air provided her with a different sort of sixth sense than the one that came with scrying in mirrors and reading tea leaves.  one that came in handy as a second set of eyes during altercations...

and also times like this.  through the air she felt him change direction to come walking up behind her, and she in turn took a fresh pull of the iced beverage in her hand.  the same chill he'd felt when he walked by her he would feel again as he walked beside her.  perhaps not as a breeze this time, since he was 'going her way', but as a simple reality of temperature.  around kiesah, one did not need to reach for a fan or reply upon an air conditioner.  a dangerously enticing circumstance, perhaps, considering the season and the current temperature of this night.

this man would soon find he was not the only one who possessed a talent for deductive reasoning.  while his was connected to charm, her own was connected to a blunt manner that could be as sharp as an ice pick.  but on this occasion, she relied upon the sweetening of her voice to deliver her matter-of-fact observation more like a gentle but chill blanket of snow.  "an iced latte is not what your breath and stride tell me you respect at this hour."  when she turned her icy blue eyes upon him, he'd see a triumphant little smirk had twisted its way upon her very pale pink lips.  her words themselves were slightly elongated, like one might expect from those who lived among fjords, highlands, or other such rural and remote wonders.  for her, english was certainly not her native language and the remnants of this touched upon each of her syllables.

still walking forward, her eyes lingered watchfully on him.  they might remind a person of a bird's eyes - an owl's, or perhaps in her less savory moments a hawk's -  because of their piercing shrewdness that was an eternal contrast to their clear, refreshing bright blue.  "the night is not as long as you think," she added.  kiesah turned her eyes away from him here, to put her gaze back upon the road.  confident that the air would tell her if he made a move that required action.  a last suck upon her straw, to drain her plastic cup of its icy dregs, and then she finished finally, "the dawn comes faster than you think."

too fast, if one asked her.  it wasn't that she couldn't walk in daylight, but for her icy constitution the noonday sun was an irritant.

Oh she was quick this one and foreign that was the hot nurse double whammy. he stole a glance over at her, his stride straitening and taking a more normal appearance while he kept stride with the hot nurse, yeah he had a healthy buzz going but maybe he was overstating his swagger. his eyes, blue as well, though a darker blue then her own caught hers for a moment but when she looked ahead he did as well.

" Oh, I like Alcohol, but I don't respect it... or most of the people who drink it too much. It takes a brave woman to load up on caffeine close to four in the morning." He grinned again. shoulders rolling up in a shrug accepting the nice cool breeze that seemed to come up during the conversation.

He cast a glance at her from the corner of his eye when she mentioned how close dawn was going to be. and then he pulled his fancy smart cell phone from his pocket and tapped in a few numbers before he shook his head."Nah, according to the almanac we've still got a solid seven hours or so until dawn. plenty of time to let me buy you a drink to wash your latte down." another smile over at her, returning his hands to his pockets. he was certainly proud of himself for that one. little did he know that his app was wrong, as some apps can tend to be.

if only kiesah was aware of the existence of this hot nurse double whammy.  she would use it to greater advantage in all aspects of the so-called life she'd made for herself here.

though her eyes were on the road ahead she did know that he adjusted his stature.  she could see it out of the corner of her eye, and feel his movements in the air that surrounded them.  the smirk she still wore upon her lips deepened, the only indication of the unspoken thoughts that had inspired it.  she found mortals so clumsy, especially when they were trying so very hard.  such as he.

"seven hours?"  dryly echoed with a faint shake of her head.  clearly he was no scholar, nor was that devise in his hand.  she did not care for them, such devices, in fact she had a deep distrust for them that many would call superstitious.  however, she would call her beliefs prudent.  in her opinion only the creators of all these 'smart' gadgets knew the full capability of what they could do - which could easily be things that their owners perhaps would not find agreeable.

"coffee does little.  alcohol, the same.  to me, they are both wet."  perhaps these things had no effect on kiesah because they were both processed to become what they were, instead of being found naturally as an apple on a tree or fresh water in a brook.  tongue sliding out briefly, the tip touching against her upper lip in consideration before she would make him a counter offer.  "i prefer the altered state that certain mushrooms provide."  an entirely natural psychotropic phenomenon, she found mushrooms an enticingly unpredictable and effective adventure.  once she decided to provide him with that information, she did so with a flicker of a grin that was almost feline in composition.  paired with the smallest, coy little glance.

but then, a quick supposed change of heart, illustrated by a half-hearted wave of her hand.  a gesture that seemed to communicate, 'no, we don't dare.'  she added the following explanation to her dismissive act.  "but those, they can't be sold over the counters of bars…..."

…were they, her leading tone seemed to ask?  she was most interested to hear his response.  to deepen her picture of what manner of man he was.

The evening was young, to him anyway. However, he had done his fair share of exploring the city tonight. He was headed back to his 'home', such shown in the top button of his brown shirt being undone, and his tie loosened. His hands were stuffed in the pockets of green suit jacket. Fedora was tipped, covering his eyes a bit, as he strolled down that street, taking the scenic route back though did not seem the least bit interested in the scenery. He had passed numerous people and numerous conversations, but the feel of that frigid air, and the power that semed to float in the air, caused his steps to suddenly halt. A single hand would be removed from pocket, and would be lifted up to tilt that hat back as he took a glance over his shoulder to the pair talking in the streets.

The deceptive smile of the woman did not fool him. The man was laying on the charm, as best he could influenced by that buzz he was under, but she didn't seem to take any real interest in it. He listened in for a little while longer, interested in finding out what was really behind these two. He was not even concerned with their conversation, but merely paying attention to the subtext. As he listened, he stepped to a cafe near where he stopped, and put on the visage as he ordered his own drink.

Clark was really quite drunk, and tossing his game down here. but even the worst cop takes notice of a dude walking around with a fedora tipped down over his eyes, it drew his eyes enough to spy a quick glance back at the man that had stopped and was glancing over his shoulder as well. casually he carried his charming smile back to the young lady he was sharing company with.

"So, two drinks then... and a shot of jager." being that she said they didnt effect her all to much.  he gave an almost forlorn look and a slump of his shoulders. joining her in her  dismissal of shrooms since they where not easy to come by. " Unfortunately no...  no they are not... couldnt agree more though." Shrooms where a hell of a thing, yes he was a cop; yes he loved his job; But, did he think that people tripping on shrooms where a danger to anyone else? not really. same with smoking pot."... Shrooms are a hell of a thing..." he decided to tack onto that.he'd had his fair share of good times on shrooms growing up... he'd tried alot of things to cope with that he could do.

He kept his hands in his pockets while he walked. Clark wasn't much of a toucher when it came to casual conversation, lead to some awkward moments. so he walked beside this woman, his cop senses alert. there was no outward change in his appaerence, but Detective Kent was certainly more aware of what was happening around him... despite his drinking.

"and you will have these same?"  kiesah posted this question to him with dryly spoken doubt peaking through the sweetness of her slightly elongated manner of speech.  "will you still be standing by the bottom of your glass?  i do not deliver men home like packages."  this she told him with a mischievous, almost calculating curl of her lips.  she did not clean up messes, most of the time not even her own.  to her, the mess which remained of any calamity was part of its beauty.

"couldn't agree more…" she echoed his words, rolling them around on her tongue and in her mind to discern the layers behind his answer.  "yet you still peddle these drinks to me."  a tisk of her tongue, and an elegant yet lamenting shake of her head.  "shame, shame.  in my company, they are more than a 'hell of a thing'.  to eat such with me is to taste the moon."  she had various gifts at her disposal because of what she was, which could enhance the experience.  that could enhance all kinds of experiences, in fact.  for better…or worse.  but which, that was a matter of opinion, wasn't it?

and her mood.

thus far, this man was treated to her one of her more indulgent moods.  his answer had deemed him worth more of her time.  he liked drink, he liked mushrooms, so he was a man who courted altered states.  such people who play with their inhibitions made excellent toys - willing to walk the line, risk, thirst for more, and only when it was too late did they realize perhaps they should have  objected all along.

objected.  a fitting word.  for to kiesah, all creatures were just that.  objects.

"if we have these three drinks together, then, you will then allow me to place mushrooms in your mouth another night."  she said this matter-of-factly, as if this was something already agreed upon between them.  fae were crafty like that, slipping binding bargains into conversation to be dumbly agreed upon as just another casual phrase, when in actuality it was much more.  if she was going to devote her time to drinking his liquids, she wanted a solidified return on her investment.

she might be timeless, but she was not one to waste any of that time.

without looking behind them at the cafe they just passed in their walking, she referred to a subtly that had transpired during their conversation.  "that man, in the hat.  is he your lover?  such interest in him."  it was not common that men gave other men second glances.  kiesah wanted to know why - be it lover, ally, enemy - for she was a creature who liked to be prepared should something unwanted transpire.

He got his mock drink that he wouldn't take a sip of. Loitering around the cafe, and not turning back to the pair. He kept an ear out though, interesting in hearing what had to be said at first before he might join in. He didn't know either, and was in no hurry to introduce himself just yet.

The comment she made would get a laugh from him, as he was sure the drunk man would take offense to it, or get flustered given his state of inebriation. Humans were like that. Figuring he'd do the man a favor, he would approach the pair. After all, just listening into conversation would only get him so far for learning what she was. He didn't care about the human though.

Quietly, he approached the pair, holding that drink in one hand, the other hand stuffed into the pocket of his jacket. "Buona Sera. How are you two lovebirds doing?"

"Oh I could handle the drinks., I've not even gotten started with my night here." he said that with a smile, he rose his brow at her grand statement." Well, I heard that about cocane before... the one time i tried it though, it just made me feel like I'd just had a few red bulls..." he grinned again and shrugged. he was pretty cavelier in his days. seeing everything's life history when you touched it. was hard to deal it sometimes, and you often found ways to cope, even including trying drugs. That was of course a long time ago, well before he joined the force.

He mused on her suggestion he didnt know she was trying to be sneaky. but he could be sneaky too. he gave a grin this and gave a shrug." Why the hell not? provided you catch me on the right night." he didnt necicarily have to agree to imbibe the mushrooms she just said she was going to place  them in his mouth. not that he was exactly thinking too deep into it.

at the mention of the behatted man. a short hoot of  laughter and he shook his head." No, no... he's not really my type. I don't like hats." he smiled a broad beaming smile at the man who stepped up to join them." Good Evening handsome... I can't speak for the lady, but I'm having a ball." Did he think it was odd that this random hat guy would walk up to two complete strangers? hell to the yes. was he going to do anything that would allude to that? newp!

his mention of a pharmaceutical made her snort, ice blue eyes looking heavenward in a very pronounced roll.  "cocaine," she echoed with disgust weighing down each of the syllables, "is what comes from a bunch of boys who wished to flirt with poison to have an excuse to unleash their primal self.  but we are not fooled.  we know that behind each business tie is a beast tied at the throat, feral and out of control because the man who carries it has no courage to unite appropriately with the animal inside."

was that a teaser of things to come for their conversation over the three pseudo-agreed upon drinks?  kiesah did not shy away from speaking with utter frankness.  any who did not like the things she said were always free to walk away.  those were were not idle words.  it was her true belief about what the modern age had done to mortal men, though she did not clarify who she spoke of when she said 'we'.  "such is also true of your red bulls," she muttered that more to herself than to him, eyes looking away, to a point far in the distance.  as if a different person, a different time, and a different place fueled those particular words.  "to speak to the bull within would do more good."

"then perhaps you have not caught me on the right night," she said firmly, turning her piercing blue eyes back in his direction.  "for agreements are not made so glibly where i am from.  to say 'why the hell not,' like you do - this is an insult."  deep, bitter emphasis on that final word as it sliced its way off of her tongue.  "is that who you are, a man who shrugs his way through life grinning like the village fool, careless about whether your next step is to be in gold or excrement?  or are you more?"  the former sweetness of her demeanor was fast waning, and it was likely mirrored by a downright frigid chill in the air that immediately surrounded her, in what most would call the aura.  for she was insulted.  to her all things had meaning.  importance.  in this agreement on the table, she was giving him the time and treasure of herself for three drinks.  perhaps that didn't mean very much to him - though he had been the one to ask for it - but it meant something to her.

time was a thing to be wasted on no one.  especially a grinning bobblehead of a man.

so it was very good that this cavalier man did not speak for her when the other approached.  perhaps what this second man heard her say as he walked up would serve as the answer to his question about love birds?  even so, the second man's question inspired one more severely spoken statement from the unseelie woman.  "he is no bird," she countered with a scoff.  "for birds always fly with purpose."

What was spoken while he approached the pair was only mildly heard, mostly just a murmur of tone and emphasis. Or so it would appear, as he made no reference or response to any of it. Once he had arrived, however, he couldn't help but chuckle to the femme's response to his own words.

"Well, signorida, I shall take your word for it. I am not a man who dwells on birds. They are nice to look at, but I prefer felines." This was meant in more than one way. Yes, the literal was there, but there was also the normal human tendency to liking cats for their companionship.

He offered a gesture of greeting to Clark as well, and would grin. He was known for approaching strangers. If one allowed themselves to be deterred because of lack of knowledge of something or someone, nothing would ever be learned. That was his goal in life. Or was it his after-life now? Un-life? Whatever it was, learning was his goal. He never would stop learning, for though there was no way he could know everything, it would not stop him from trying.

"Well then, if birds you are not, whatever you be, I hope this evening finds the both of you well."

Glorious.

Heat.

It radiated from everything around her, from her person, her mind. Even at night in this fathomless city that held a myriad of sensations and thrills. Far from the Glittering Throng, the patterns of light were paltry imitations of what each tried to emulate. Yet, they twinkled, winked and reminded her from whence she came.

Her reasons for being here were obvious. Obvious in the threesome ahead that spoke, the coolness curling off the one in her sights like a beacon to the seelie sidhe.

Human. And dead.

So this was the focus of the moon to her sun? Even from the distance that separated her from the one she sought, she could feel the displeasure. A smile, bringing a vision of a ray of sunshine in the depth of a forest primeval, came into being. So it was not her focus, only the source of her cool bristling that sliced through the dishonesty that came so naturally to those dwelling above the mounds.

Drawing closer, she heard, and felt, the cool sharp slice into the human. The one who smelled of alcohol and lust. A small twitch of her nose. A disgusting combination. The other was giving off the feel of the grave, of sadness and lonely existence that had stretched too long. Longer than imagined at first.

The gliding steps drew nearer, she walked around the trio, turning her head their way, her forward motion never faltering. The sun's light collided with the moon's luminescence, within that there was always a reaction solely between the two. Glamour, illusion, projection and distilled focus disallowed any other from understanding the immensity of the pair coming so close without touching.

Did the human understand with what he played? The radiant light within the blue eyes of the seelie said most certainly not. The radiant light that was transfixed on the one she sought.

Clark's winning smile didnt change when the woman tore into him, it wouldnt be the first time a woman had tried to cut him down.  when she was finished he didnt shrug this time. "More people enjoy the villiage fool, then the villiage shrew." was his response to her. it also wouldnt be the first time he was going to get slapped.

"I didnt mean you any insult... " his voice was stern, not at all carrying that drunken slur he might have been playing up just a bit."... Maybe if you didnt jump to such an extreme, you know just how much more I am." you didnt get where he was with the ladies by taking crap from them and being afraid to toss it back.

His eyes left the woman then, to see the man, he spoke with an accent. something to note. "You too buddy, enjoy your, uh, hat... wearing." he said with a nod. before returning his attention to the young lady. "I've got a purpose, just because you didnt like it, doesnt mean it isnt there."

"when the shrew does not belong to the village she doesn't seek to win popularity contests."  her cool reply was partnered with the unfaltering stare of her steely frost-colored eyes.  perhaps that's why the slap he expected did not come.  she had nothing to prove to the village fool.  nor did she have anything to prove to the hat wearer.

the female that walked by, however.

when she felt the unmistakable, potently invasive heat approach and crash into her chill, barren aura, kiesah refused to move.  she refused to shift her stance, her head, or even her eyes.  what need was there?  she knew exactly who, or rather what, was choosing to cross her path so very late on this humid summer night.  what she did not know was why.

it was something deep in her blood and her past that drove her to discomfort whenever she did not know the why in any given circumstance.

so.  for now, there was no choice but to bide her time, an act which did not normally suit her tastes.  if it were not for the appearance of this sunbeam of seelie light, likely her irritation would have driven her to part ways from both of these men without explanation or apology to move on to something more to her taste.  but now - as the potent chill in the air extended outward from her like an invisible creeping fog to keep tabs on the movements of the radiant heat - she was forced to do something which she had absolutely no true desire to do.

small talk.  and, perhaps worse, she had to play nice.

"...because i am not from here, you see."  to sweeten her voice for this smarmy specimen of mortality made her skin crawl, and yet it was done.  flawlessly so, as she had the addling powers of bewitchment and bended truths on her side.  her elongated syllables slurring with sugar, she even went so far as the crook her head just so.  mea culpa, that fetching head tilt seemed to say, as shimmering blue eyes turned to look at the drinker first, and then the other.  "that is why your purpose escapes me perhaps?  for you both.  you two are to me, you know, lost in translation."  the light, whispy laugh she added to her attempt at a joke sprinkled a serene peace over the scene like a blanket of soft snow.

but as she flashed the two men a fetchingly apologetic smile, somewhere deeply hidden in the crescent curvature of her lips there still resided a chill as palpable as the one in the air.  one that only the lingering essence of sun to her moon would feel, as that slip of a summer female had chosen to place her radiant light so...intriguingly...close to the winter maiden.

A fake sun, and a fake heat. It may not have been the real thing, and would not kill him, but it still brought a sense of discomfort, and not the one radiating off of the winter maiden before him. Without realizing it at first, he drew nearer to the one emenating the chill off her body as if she were a living air conditioner stuck at 32 degrees. A hand rose up, and he'd grip at the brim of that fedora, drawing it back over his eyes a bit, as he cast his gaze over to the brighter of the pair of femmes.

To one with keen eyes, a crack in his flesh would be visible. To one with exceptionally keen eyes beyond the natural, the secret might be perceived. But as quickly as that crack came into being, he'd force it smooth once more. His gaze would remain on the warmer, brighter of the pair, however he'd remain silent as he observed for now.

All comments, both kind and cutting would be ignored and forgotten for the time being, as he put forth his efforts to learn why this woman seemed to beam out heat from her body, as if she burned with The Fires of A Thousand Suns. As such, no response would be given for now. He would do well to apologize for such later.

Oh the delight of seeing the moon to her sun. Leaving the Glittering Throng, even for a short time, had its price, but when her eyes swept over the one she sought she knew the price was nothing. There came a shift, a slowing of time, that no human, vampire, or lycan could perceive. It left only the sun and moon to see one another for seconds that ticked by with nary a glitch in the minds of those around.

In those ticking seconds, the hand of time used with grace and skill, her eyes lingered on her moon. The sway of her dress, the tendrils of hair that danced at her torso, seemed to be in slow motion. In those ticking seconds, she grabbed every detail, from the curve of her cheek, the set of her mouth, to the change in her eyes. In those ticking seconds, her eyes gave a slow blink, and a smile dusted in glittering glory broke across her features. Innocence,or the illusion thereof,

It was over, and the sun was some distance away, but the announcement was clear to the intoxicating winter maiden. Leaving behind a streak of residue, again that only the moon could discern, for the moon received it's shadowy silvery light from the sun's heat. She heard the shift in the voice of the one she sought, the sound released was like that of a lover's sigh after the sweetest of kisses, it caressed the ear of Sylvanas, enough that she turned, and with another slow blink, stole one last glimpse of the one she sought. The one she left the Glittering Throng to find.

Clark looked a little dumbfounded for a moment, he watched the reaction of the vampire, and immidiately took notice of the woman's change in attitudebeforeit seemed alright. and after a shake of his head. eyes focusing on the woman who's company he'd been seeking for the evening again.

"Yeah, Sorry, that was my bad... I, should have taken into account that you're not from here." he said offering a smile to her again, though it wasnt his winning, prince charming smile. his eyes left to to see the hat wearer, and then eyes narrowed seeing his gaze off somewhere else. , and when he followed the line he sight he saw someone else. and she was leaving. his brow furrowed then and the detective shook his head. beforea nice sigh.

"Um, I think I might have to take a rain check on those drinks. I uh, believe I've had enough for tonight. Can I, get you another iced latte? by way of apology?" he wasnt laying the moves on thick anymore, it was just a question, as there was a cafe not mroe then acrosas the street. wheretheir be-hatted friend had gotten the beverage he never got to drinking.

the two men who were her in her company, it was sudden that both went still.  kiesah knew well the stillness of living statues, as she often kept a collection of them wherever she dwelled.  so did these two men look, but sans the chill of her own hand which could bring a dormant freeze to a life.

that left only one other who could have done the deed.  for the first time kiesah's eyes turned towards the radiant heat, her wintry blue gaze piercing the form and feature of the summer female.  when the seelie showed the sweetness of her smile, kiesah's lips pursed into a smirk which wore her suspicion like a crown as she turned her back to the departing sun.

what was this sun to her moon playing at?  that was the thought that dominated the mind of the unseelie as time was sparked back to life.

yet with the two men, kiesah did not miss a beat.  first her frosty eyes settled upon the hat wearer, looking him slowly down, and then up as she ever so slightly shifted her weight.  there was no telling what she noticed, or what she could sense from the hat-wearer even without need of her eyes, but the languid once-over of her gaze suggested without speaking that she had noted the fact that he had drawn nearer to her when faced with the seelie sun.

then, to the audacious one.  who seemed to have lost his spark.  poor mortal, perhaps tonight he'd learned that charm was a fleeting thing for his kind.  as easily captured as a firefly, but no matter how artful the capture the light would always grow dim and soon after find its demise.  and yet her immortal sweetness would smoothly carry on, an encore of that elegant cant of her head as sugared syllables crooned, "you are leaving, so soon?  it is not my company that has made you feel unwell…?"  she let that question trail off, hang in the air with the chill that radiated from her.

before she let out a sigh.  which held a chill all of its own.  "if you must," she lamented, lips forming a mournful pout.  "then there is nothing to do but accept your apology and offer."  fae were not one to turn down a gift at any time in any place, especially one that was tied to no consequences or bargains like the purchase of the iced latte.

but sweet as she was on the outside, inwardly she wanted the charmer to get her his drink and get on with his drunken evening elsewhere.  while she did not turn in the direction the seelie had taken for her exit, it was that beautiful beacon of light which currently blinded her from other thoughts.

The uncertainty of what she was would be what kept him still. The feel of the warmth pulsing off her being was what made him nearly jump out of his skin. He hadn't thought he had lingered that late into the night, that dawn had been upon them. However, after a moment, he had settled lightly upon the notion that he had imagined the sun in his mind, and merely felt a waft of what heat lingered in this city like the stench of an unwashed hobo. His eyes trailed down the street, in either direction, wondering where she had come from, and where she had gone, before he'd settle his eyes upon the colder femme. It would be then that he had realized that he had siddled up beside her, nearer than he even imagined. He took his steps back, and fixed his jacket in what might have even been a nervous twitch before stuffing a hand back into his pocket. He'd offer his drink up to the femme, since it was an iced drink as well, and one that he'd never touch even in his living life, even if they did exist back then...

He would glance in passing to the other male who seemed to be taking his leave for whatever reason. He didn't mind. He felt the need to leave as well right now, for now his mind was clouded with many thoughts and conflicting opinions on what had just transpired, combined with a sudden need to just climb into his tomb and sleep.

"huh?" he looked a little confused but he shook his head. " No, no I wasn't planning  on bailing out on you." he offered her another smile. bringing a hand up to run fingers through his hair. " I just had one of those hot flashes and thought that I'd had enough to drink tonight. and would rather ask you for a coffee tonight."

He gave the man a conerned look when he started staring blankly, and looking around. the sort of concerned look you gave a crazy person. and was now offering his own coffee beverage to the woman. "Dude... be cool." Clark said to him, it was a little rude to just bust in on someone elses Idea."Wouldnt want to take your drink." he offered the man a smile.  sliding his hands into his pockets again." I got this one my man."

Was he trying to get the other guy to leave with haste? maybe just a little. especially since the guy was being all wierd and quiet now. sort of harshing the vibe of the area a little with it.

when the audacious one lived up to this namesake by chiding the man in the hat for offering his beverage to her, kiesah could not help her grin.  to watch the bickering of men was always marvelous entertainment.  “come now,” she cut in sweetly, tushing her tongue at the audacious one.  her piercing ice blue eyes remained on him as she reached out and took the offered drink from the other man, holding the cup up in the suggestion of a toast.  “think of it as an appetizer, and you are so good as to provide me with an entrée?”  posed to him with a sly, coy purse of her lips.

did the audacious one catch her meaning?  the unseelie now expected a gift which was more lavish than the cup that had just been put in her hand.  for if there was one thing she enjoyed more than the verbal sparring of rivaling men, it was watching them fight for their place in any given pecking order through one-upmanship.

“or perhaps not appetizer, but charity?” she mused, turning her glacial gaze to study the laconic hat wearer.  “for it seems he purchased something he does not care to drink.  is there poison,  mon cheri?”  underneath the tinker of her short, brief laugh there was a cold edge.  it was a rare occurrence indeed that a fae did not do or say something for a reason, and this was not one of those occasions.  perhaps it was what she observed in him a moment ago when he’d moved closer to her that inspired her to point out so bluntly that he’d turned up his nose at his drink.

or perhaps she did not like how his gaze had lingered so long on the sun to her moon.  envy was a vice that wore well upon the winter maiden, and fae were creatures that lived the old saying, ‘one good turn deserves another’ quite literally.  whether the turn was in truth good…or bad.

so she lifted the drink to her nose, taking in a deep breath of its cold coffee aroma through her nostrils.  “so divine,” she breathed out with an impish little smile.  before sticking the beverage out right underneath the nose of the hat-wearer.  beseeching him with a croon, “you should take a breath of it.  a big one.  to be truly sure you wish to give it up.”  this she clearly spoke to the man with the hat, yet her icy eyes turned rather pointedly to the audacious one.  as if to say that in this moment there was something it would do him well to watch.

so unabashedly captivated by the sun as the hat-wearer had been, he was lucky she didn’t pour the drink right over his head instead.  though trying to call out his secrets in front of strange company was perhaps the worse of two evils.

The offer of the drink was given without desire for any return. He didn't care about one-uping anyone, and he wasn't here to compete with anyone. Kiesah was not a Tiger and as such was not someone he would just chat up in efforts to get anywhere. She was a unique person he would have to learn more about to decipher what she was, but that was the extent of his interest. What was she, what could she do, and would she be friend or foe?

Humans got too involved in competition, especially when it came to dealings with the opposite sex. He hadn't neccesarily completly abandoned such things, but he was less interested in fascinating the opposite sex.

His attention would be back on the other two now that he confined in the idea that there was something larger at play here that would take more time of research to figure out.

"By all means, bellissima, you may have it." He stated simply, not indulging in a sniff, for familiarizing himself with the smell of the drink, again, would do nothing else.

As a detective, it behooved clark to be an obvservant person. and so he watched, watched the refreshingly egotistical woman. As Clark himself thought very highly of himself, it was very refreshing to find a woman that  felt similarly of herself.

The otherman, seemed to go out of his way to seem disinterested and aloof, which was something to note. a great man once said that it's the people who are trying to look unimportant that usually are.

While it was out of character for him, Clark said nothing. and observed for a moment, pulling a hand from his pocket to itch an an ear.

"Y'know..." he started  after the man was finished speaking."I know this fantastic   steak place, where they roast their prime rib under a shell of fresh ground coffee beans. offers a nice, little café flavor could cut it with a butter knife." Clark was a bit of a foodie.  if he ate out, it was at the fancy little restaurants that all cities had. of course some cities had more then others.

"As my good man here, was more then nice enough to give you his coffee. perhaps you'll allow me to buy you a meal there sometime." clark was absolutely jovial, and offered another smile. hands once again in his pockets. didnt want to chance touching anything he didnt already know the life story of. would have meant for an awkward experience. given how it affected him to use his ability."Unless..."He pulled out his cell phone again and checked the time, brows up in surprise."you'd allow me to get you breakfast.I'm certain there could be a diner around here somewhere." afterall it was the south.

there would be no one to think highly of her if kiesah did not do this job herself.  so it had been since she and her parents had mutually agreed to each go their separate ways when she was five-years-old.  besides self-reliance, in her world there was nothing.

perhaps such a wintry outlook would fill her with sadness if her heart did not beat cold as ice.

only briefly did the sidhe turn her attention return to the man with the hat.  if he wished to remain aloof in the conversation he'd chosen to enter, such was his prerogative.  what point she wished to make, she'd made already with the very cup of iced coffee she was drinking from now.  once she lowered the cold beverage from her lips, there was only one thing left to say.  "come sospettavo."  for when he called her 'bellissma,' she knew to address him with the tongue that had coined 'mon cheri' no longer.

now to address the audacious one, who had not disappointed her desire to up the evening's ante.  a coy, calculating smirk twisting the corners of her lips as her arctic blue eyes settled upon him.  "there are things i must take care of, before the new day breaks."  for the longer she lingered here with these two men, the farther away the sun to her moon was able to steal into the night - and that radiant beam already held too much of an advantage for the unseelie's tastes.  "so you provide this dinner of your choosing, and i shall provide the dessert?"  kiesah was quick to learn, and even quicker to adapt.  as such this second attempt to bargain with this cock of the walk was purposefully vague, and deliberately flirtatious.

after all, to get a desired result one should always stroke a man where his interest lives.

He would have to find this person again, without the distraction of the sun, whether literal or figurative. For now, he would bid adieu, or arivaderci. He rose a hand and tipped it towards the femme, as he would then turn from the remaining pair, and head back down the street, in the direction he had come from originally. Hands would slip back into his pockets.

"Ciao, bella."

Clark thought about that for a moment, but after that thought he gave her a nod. "Alright. but you can't just spring shrooms on me. Surprise trips are seldom good trips." personal experience,  or personal observation?  As a cop he'd seen alot of bad trips. and as a college and highschool student, he'd been on a couple.

He reached into the interior pocket of his jacket, and produced a metallic business card holder. he thumbed through a few before he produced one that simply read. 'Clark Kent' and had a phone number underneath his name.

As she'd said she had things that needed to get taken care of, he wouldnt push a meal tonight, given the late hour as it was so the small white bit card stock was offered forth to her." Give me a call when you're ready, and we'll have our dinner and mystery dessert." he flashed her his charming smile again as he held the card forward.

such a deep sigh of great irritation came from the winter maiden.  indeed, the elongated exhale would effectively chill the air around her much like the wash of cold that came from opening a freezer door.  "such a fuddy duddy for one of supposedly virile age." clearly this man was used to flirtation with mortal women, and was not used to wooing a female of more...challenging substance and desire.

when she plucked the card from his hand, it was with a lofting roll of her arctic blue eyes.  complete with a shake of her head as their icy blue once more settled upon him.  "don't hold your breath."  this mortal was hellbent on maintaining the mundane, what reason could she possibly have for wanting to sit down with a human to a table of food that was cooked to the point that the scents would turn her stomach?

the card was slipped into the pocket of her white lab coat with a fluid movement of her long, pallid fingers.  her oh so pale lips curling in a cryptically smug little smirk as she turned her attention from him without formally bidding him good evening, starting in the direction marked by the unmistakably warm, humid residue that the sun to her moon had left in her wake.

it was time to attend to more lucrative business.
