Since starting his first day on the job at the hospital, he was in his office doing nothing and no clients came at the moment for some skin related problems. His work phone was used for calls in from people who was scheduled to have an appointment with him, so he carried his cellphone with him at all times. Instead of using his cell, it needed to be charged so picked up the white phone with a circular dial on it's face and called the number he knew at the top of his head.

The caller id wouldn't be his name, but it gave the name of a local hospital so she probably would not pick up right away or maybe she would. Either way, he just wanted to talk with her and see how she was doing. She was a shy girl who worked at a library, she told him when they first met so he didn't know what she was doing on those work days.

He cradled the phone on his right shoulder, the papers sitting in front of him.

Kat was presently working back in the sorting room where all the books that were checked back in were brought to be sorted. She was making sure all the books on her cart went to her section before taking off with the cart. Her short fingernail slid over the spines as she read some of the name and the plucked out a book and moved across the room to set it on another cart. One her way back was when her cell phone started to vibrate. It took her a minute to realize what it was and then she fumbled to get it out of her pocket. Hitting the talk button she wedged the phone between her shoulder and ear. Since the number on the ID was from a Hospital and she only knew one person connected to a hospital at the moment she beamed as her voice took on a chipper note.

"Hi, Owen. How're you?"

Let's just hope her Sherlock Holmes skills were not as bad as they could be.

Damn it to hell if he only wish this would have turned out to be one of those midnight hour phone calls when she spoke like that. What kind of girl like her ended up spending her time at a quiet location such as a library? He was going to still escort her to the ball so he called to remind her that he'll be available the day they'll be going to the party. He remembered something about her going as a fairy, but he hadn't exploited what he was going as. The attire he was wearing was made in the past, he read once that a crazy man in Bavaria before it was called another name in Germany was said to be mad, it was believed the King was crazy and that the "fairytale" king in which people nicknamed him as was rumored to commit suicide, but that was only a rumor. He was coming as King Ludwig the II and that he picked out the mask to fit the costume perfectly. His voice was a light tone, deep and had of a bit of charm when he spoke through the mouthpiece.

"Hello Ms. Katerina. You're still up for me to pick you up on the night of the ball?" A simple reminder of what they spoke about before leaving the ferry. He felt terrible leaving her like that afterward, but he wanted to make up for his lack of spending more time with her when deep down he had truly would have liked to get to know her more. The Masquerade will sure help with that, only if she hasn't already changed her mind that is.

She was proud of herself for not screwing up that greeting, but then she was on the phone and she felt safe on the phone. So, she didn't have a reason to screw it up, well until he called her by her whole name and brought up the ball. No, she didn't drop the phone or even bobble the phone, it was the book in her hand. She cringed and jerked to catch the book.

"Oh! Of course!" Her voice was a bit rushed as she caught the book and then she put it in it's place and ran her finger down the spine. "I was hoping you would call." Damn it, did that make her sound desperate? Probably. She squeezed her eyes closed and punched the bridge of her nose. Yes, she had been hoping he would call. And yes she was hoping he didn't back out of escorting her. But, she didn't have to throw it out there like that, did she? Yup, she was completely hopeless. "I'll need a bit of help with part of my costume once we get there. I hope you don't mind." Wait till she singed a another hole through a dress and had to go shopping again from being nervous. Maybe a mini fire extinguisher wasn't a bad idea. She thought on it a minute. Damn, to big. She was screwed.

Did he just hear her correctly? That she invited him of all people to come and assist her with the material she was going to need. Oh crap, he was not good at these things but since she ASKED and more sincere how can he say no?! Better yet, if she said it to him in person she'd have definitely seen his facw now. He stood upon his dress shoes, walked to the window a little far behind his back and parted a curtain to the left side while staring down at the night streets still chatting away with Kat on the phone against the right of his ear. The night was young, the only thing was near the full moon things might have been different then such as the change of mood, but he was just fine so he was completely normal. "I would love nothing better than to lift a hand Kat. You just let me know when you'll be available before then and we can do it. I usually get off around seven or eight p.m so I'm not doing nothing after that. "The good part of New Orleans is that curfew went straight out the window here. No matter what time it was in the city, there was more and more. This place was growing on him a little bit, didn't think he would like it more when he first stepped on it's soil.

Was that a blush blooming on her cheeks? You better believe it was, which was why she was covering her mouth with her hand for a moment and glancing at the floor. "Well, I won't exactly need help until the night of the ball. I can't wear my wings in the car and, well, I can't get them on right by myself. So, I need a wing man, literally." That blush deepened at the way that came out and she bit down on her lower lip. God, was she always going to be this clumsy around people!?
"But, if you'd want, er....like, we can catch a bite to eat or something before then?" Good god! Was she asking him out!? What was the matter with her? Just chill she told herself after a moment. It was a friendly invitation to get out for a while, nothing more. Yeah, right, if that was true she wouldn't feel like she was about to singe the hell out of something. She jerked her free hand off the books before that happened.

Did she just now asked him on a date? It sounded like one from her perspective and of course he did not entirely decline her invitation to go hang with her to grab a meal or two. He needed to get home, shower, put on some street clothes he left out on his bed when he got home cause the last part was to be smelly and he has been moving a lot lately so after a long pause he gave a last minute reply. "I will like that Kat. But, am I the one who should be doing the asking? Like to go to dinner? "Now, did that sound too hard? It was something to do before they did the ball thing. Give the two time to catch up, talk about topics that interested him and perhaps he can finally try to break a little of her shell a bit. Let her see there was no need to hide behind thousands of books, he was going to show her what fun really is about if she tries that is. "Tomorrow. I'll come pick you up tomorrow. Be ready when I get there okay? "He heard a loud shout coming from down the hall, his name "Owen" was what he thought he heard. Damn it! He hated to put the phone down just when he was getting to the best part. "Um..Kat, I...I got to go. "It was in a haste then the sound of a dial tone was all she would here from there.
